I have been busy improving my website, Rehabilitation Matters. Only the boring pages: About, Purpose, Contact & Feedback. But I have revised my purpose, updated my goal, and simplified contact. About rehabilitationmatters.com/about/ (The photos are all by me, most on an iPhone and cropped)

Theories proposed by John Whyte and colleagues, such as enablement and treatment theories, will help rehabilitation grow. I identify weaknesses, which will lead to further growth and understanding. Discussions about theory are crucial. rehabilitationmatters.com/enablement-a... #neurorehabilitation
Enablement and treatment theory - Rehabilitation Matters
Enablement & treatment theories for rehabilitation & the associated RTSS system describing treatments will improve clinical care & research: strength/weakness

The article represents a stage in the evolution of my ideas. Anyone interested in seeing a more detailed, earlier exploration of rehabilitation thinking should look at these two pages: rehabilitationmatters.com/rehabilitati... and rehabilitationmatters.com/holistic-reh... #neurorehabilitation
Given the public perception that hyperbaric oxygen helps ischaemic and other neurological disorders, I am interested that a trial of intermittent hypoxia for incomplete spinal cord injury was undertaken; the data justify further research.

DW. Papers from a large trial of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in people with Motor Neuron Disease (ALS in the US) are summarised in this paper; the therapy helped and should be targeted (see synopsis). njl-admin.nihr.ac.uk/document/dow... #neurorehabilitation

DW. A trial of a method to increase the use and effectiveness of group physiotherapy education, support, and exercise for people with osteoarthritis of the knee failed to alter outcomes. Implementing rehabilitation approaches remains a challenge. doi.org/10.1001/jama...

We should promote biopsychosocial healthcare as the model for all healthcare, with biomedical practice being a subsystem. Currently, biopsychosocial healthcare is considered an unnecessary complication! My recent post explains more: rehabilitationmatters.com/biopsychosoc... #neurorehabilitation
Biopsychosocial healthcare - Rehabilitation Matters
Healthcare systems are founded on a biomedical healthcare model, but person-centred holistic care needs a biopsychosocial healthcare model with a broad scope

Congratulations, Jeanne Hoffman et al, for a huge randomised trial in 925 people with moderate/severe traumatic brain injury investigating added support for 6 months after discharge. Amazing follow-up success. Disappointing that no effect was detected. www.liebertpub.com/doi/pdf/10.1... #neurorehab

I talk about measurement in rehabilitation, and use a non-psychometric approach that explains what validity and reliability (repeatability) are and why they are needed. I also discuss the vital importance of knowing what you want to know and why. rehabilitationmatters.com/academic-reh... #neurorehab
Measurement in rehabilitation - Rehabilitation Matters
Measurement in rehabilitation is crucial clinically, in service improvement, & in research. The data collection tool defines validity & influences repeatability

Biomedical healthcare dominates all health discussions. Rehabilitation uses a biopsychosocial model,. We should refer to biopsychosocial healthcare, joining with psychiatry, palliative care, geriatrics etc. The MindMap compares them. Comments? #neurorehabilitation
Therapeutic relationships are crucial in rehabilitation yet are understudied and scarcely taught or trained. Look at this study. #neurorehabilitation
DW. Two vital aspects of rehabilitation are the professional-patient relationship and teaching self-management; a recent study investigated both, highlighting practical challenges. We must train therapists/nurses/doctors how to develop therapeutic relationships. doi.org/10.1177/0269... #neurorehab

Professional rehabilitation should be less cautious about exercise after stroke and should encourage patients to be active++
DW. Practice improves function; this is a central tenet of rehabilitation. A recent trial demonstrates that a protocol to increase walking practice after stroke is effective. We must help patients practice independently without professional supervision. doi.org/10.1016/S147... #neurorehabilitation
