It's a long essay, but I pulled out my favourite excerpts for an anti-AI group I run on a different platform. Basically: AI imagery looks like sht, but that's the appeal to the far right. I wish I could highlight, but here are my favourite parts. The comment about the Cybertruck at then end is 👨‍🍳💋
**shucks** this was a potential use case that really had my hopes up; enriching hedge fund investors and bosses. Alas…
Can confirm the sense up here in Canada is that commitments from the U.S. are to be viewed as less than credible. 🇨🇦
Yes, please do. Because the experiences I've heard about (and lived at work) so far are not promising for AI. LOL.
My personal expectation (open to having it dashed) is that the Committee is hip to this awful hype and uses this as an opportunity to award the prize to the Epstein victims. Or AOC.
It's not like the stopped *all* foreign aid during Trump 2.0.
The guy we are saving with $20B bailout
23% thinking this government has been "very similar" to Trudeau's may not be paying attention. Let us count the Trudeau administration's initiatives that were first up for reversing by Carney's Liberals (using mostly the same individual MPs). I suspect much of the 23% are CPC supporters, though.
An AI bubble. Who could possibly have predicted? I guess the trough of reality (sorry, “trough of disillusionment”) is the next stage in the hype cycle.

A woman protesting outside the ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois, was brutally assaulted by goons who used mace and sting balls on her.
These monstrous cowards presumably go home to families at the end of the day. I wonder what they tell them. I wonder how they treat them. It remains to me an eternal mystery, what happens as they kiss their kids goodnight.
I agree with that. Canadians (esp. those who lived in Ottawa) suffered through the so-called "Freedom Convoy" terrorizing Ottawa for a few weeks back in 2022. My 30% is just a best guess. To this day, Trump enjoy's a 39% approval rating. After all we've seen and after all Americans have suffered.
Canadian here. I was just thinking yesterday: my heart goes out to the 70% of our American neighbours who are subject to the monstrosity, cruelty, and ignorance of the 30%.
LOL. Besides the actual cancellation, the best part of the whole episode was the contortions Carney stans performed to rationalize the invitation in the first place. Amusing.
Can't recommend this November 2023 episode of Sean Carroll's podcast enough. He talks about all the easy ways it is to intentionally (or unintentionally) frustrate these stochastic parrots. It's remarkable how brittle and narrow these "tools" are. www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/2023...

Suppose you drop a 109-page Supreme Court decision into an LLM and ask it to "summarize the legal reasoning and the holding of the Court in 500 words". In order to verify whether the output is reliable a human needs to literally do what the prompt requires and then compare it to the LLM output.
It's the "error check" that gets me. If you need to check the output for correctness or reliability, then you (the human) need to have developed a theory of what is correct/reliable. So what's the "value-add"? People at work (especially big bosses) are getting tired of me explaining this to them.
I also loved that phrase. Since reading the book, a few times over the past number of months at work I’ve said: “the reason I’m always ridiculing [our in-house LLM] is because it’s ridiculous”.
