It's a meal in a soup, the potatoes and barley really bulk it out. It also cooks to a concentrate so there's lots of portions you can water down and heat up

Regal ciggies used to have a mail order collection shop in Manchester where you could trade in cards they had inside packs. It was like Index or Argos in exchange for lung cancer. Mam used to pay p&p and get a bit of Capo de Monte tat.

There was only one place in Wigan that did red porter when I was a drinker and that was the Oak Hotel near town. Tried it once but it cost too much because, hotel prices. It was probably Murphy's red rather than Beamish
