A couple things: Trump isn't conservative at all. He's an authoritarian populist who successfully gaslights his base of mentally squishy believers. His believers are only humans who have been brainwashed by decades of indoctrination, yes, but they still deserve your compassion.
Their fantasy is that Trump is a genius businessman who's going to make everything better. The reality is that the Republicans have given the ruinously stupid idiot Trump enough rope to hang them all with and they are just going along with it and putting their necks into the rope.
Senate Republicans have long defended the filibuster as vital to protecting minority rights and bipartisanship. McConnell called it the Senate’s key distinction from the House, warning that ending it would “break the institution.”
The small number of people who hold all the power and wealth will absolutely prefer that everything be burned completely to the ground than give up their privileges.
IF the govt stays shut down and congress stays in recess for the next, say 2 months... AND the Supreme Court strikes down Trump's emergency tariffs... there's a real chance the incompetent, corrupt idiots in the Trump regime could actually deplete the treasury to the point they can no longer pay
