Happy 100th (!) birthday to the Soul Shop Steinway, who rolled off the line in Queens, NY on November 19, 2025. In honor of her centennial I wrote a little bit about her history, and made a playlist of some of our favorite recordings.

Always a good day when I get to share a stage with @jtkantor.bsky.social
Time and Place (my favorite folk-punk labor activist band) is up for Americana Artist of the Year at next month's Boston Music Awards, and they kindly let me play accordion on their latest single ("The Great Unwashed") and appear in the music video for it (below) that just dropped.

Congress voted to cut all federal funds for public media. For WBUR, it means we'll lose at least $1.6 million annually.

Yet the news won't stop, and neither will we.

Our commitment to thoughtful, fair and trustworthy coverage is undiminished.

But we need your help.

A beautiful piece of writing on fandom by @amandabeland.bsky.social, filtered through the lens of this unique and challenging moment we @celticsnba.bsky.social fans are experiencing
I'm a huge Celtics fan now. Nobody is more surprised than me
I've watched every Celtics game this season, writes WBUR senior producer Amanda Beland. I don’t walk away from my friends when things get tough and my fandom isn’t conditional either.

Bass #reamp, killer sounds thru the old standby Shop B15. Not all the stuff is vintage all the time, though, proven by stellar fuzz sounds from this DOD Carcosa, and the Vanguard Audio V4 FET condenser, far and away my favorite newer microphone on the scene. #soulshop

My favorite part of walking home from the Shop at 3AM is running into my wabbit neighbors. This time it was a special moment between these two lovebirds, an obvious analogue to myself and @amandabeland.bsky.social. (I won't post the video of the flirt-jumping, cause that's between the two of them.)

Still grooving high on last weekend's live performance by @ryanleecrosby.bsky.social here at the Soul Shop. RLC is currently on his "Boston to Bentonia" tour, please check his itinerary and catch him along the way if you can. Absolutely transcendent.

A newer member of the stable of weirdo #solidstate amps at the Soul Shop, this 1960s Standel Studio XII has been working hard lately as a #reamp machine. It may not have the rep of the tube models, but it's incredibly valuable as tonal seasoning on tracks ranging from pedal steel to accordion.

For my track, "You & I," off the new Soul Shop Xmas album, I took a steal from Dan Fogelberg and ended the story with my reharm of "Auld Lang Syne." Use this chart for your New Year's Eve gig, or rewrite it yourself, it's folk music after all.
