It was night. Like all things that lurked in the dark, the night drew them out to roam.
They wandered aimlessly through the halls with a vague inclination toward an objective.
They opened doors and entered rooms, finding nothing, they exited back into the hall.
It was a slow night. Their sack was reasonably light.
There was no need to haul it over their shoulder. There wasn’t so much as a spare rib that weighed the sack to drag on the wooden floorboards.
The boards creaked, but only slightly. The hinges of doors were far more rickety.
They entered another room.
Here they found the remains of something that had ventured out during the day.
They didn’t know what it was. It wore drapes similar to leather.
But the corpse was in a state of great decay, and it seemed whatever was the cause of death, had caused the skin to weld to the garment.
It certainly didn’t deter them from starting their work.
They dropped their sack on the floor and pulled out a wooden box that they used to store their equipment.
The blood was still moist which made their job easier, but the bones would still put up a fight as they were freed from their flesh tendons.

He frowned. This bone was in poor shape. It was deficient and starting to crack.
He discarded it. The connecting bones were also in similar disrepair. He tossed these bones as well. He could only salvage half of the skeleton. The skull had been completely caved in.
The inferior bones were worthless. They were for the hounds.
