Bengali is the same, no articles, no saying I ate "my" breakfast (who else's breakfast would I eat? 🙂) Also inflections can replace prepositions.

You've made me curious why the English is longer - is it the adjectives vs prepositional phrases?

I responded because your message showed up in my feed, I'm not responding any further.

It's the number written that way, hard to avoid.

I'm also tired of YA books that all try to sound extremely colloquial - as if every teenager has the same voice.

From an essay about hooks in stories - this clip seems to fit the mood for "welcome." #WIPSnips

When I pick up a book, I'm hoping to find a good introduction. I don't need to be thrown into the deep end of the plot. Use your words to immerse me (the reader) in the world you've created. Invite the reader into your story.

My "horror" tends to be light - but I thought I'd give it a try!

I started writing an interactive fiction ("choose your own adventure" type story). I'm really enjoying writing in second person, without any specified gender or other characteristics of the main character 🙂

Here's a short story I wrote this week if you'd like to take a look - it's about spending time with family & the things we learn if we pay attention.

I work on more than one (better for me) - different types of writing is best. I can't go directly from one to another, I do some activity besides writing in between if it's the same day.

No problem! I'm interested in your question. Maybe, simplify your magic & other systems, then you're not having to tie together so much detail? You could try keeping the systems detail as simple as possible in the first draft, then see how much detail you can add before it's too much?

I don't know if this will help you, but I do better when I keep idea generation & writing separate (vs people who start by sitting in front of the blank screen or page). Maybe divide the cognitive tasks of coming up with ideas & writing them down?

Having the story in mind, and knowing it will take such a long time to write it out!

I know working in schools I've used noise reducing headsets for students - less than $400 but not total silence. Congratulations on retiring from the day job & having time for more writing!

People used to entertain their friends with songs & stories, before it became an industry! It's wonderful when people still do that.

When Santanu met Ganga, he did not realize she was the river goddess. She appeared to him as a beautiful young woman. King Santanu asked Ganga to marry him, and she agreed, with one
stipulation. She would remain with him, as long as he spoke kindly, and did not question anything she did.

Yes! Envisioning something different from reality, that's better than what we're doing.

Real life feels dystopian, so reading about #dystopia is not a change of pace. I'm wondering if we will see a category of speculative/ science fiction #writing about people who have figured out how not to self-destruct (it should be basic, but at this point sounds like utopian fiction). 💙📚
