Senator Padilla was driven violently to his knees–as if made to kneel before the authority of the executive–because the administration called his questions “disrespectful”.

This should offend not just the other 99 Senators. It should offend the conscience of this country.
1775. A shot heard around the world.

2025. An elected United States senator was put in cuffs for asking a question at a press conference.

The click of those cuffs echoed that past sound

Who will answer the call? #1IfByLand #spiritof1775 #nokingsprotest

I do it for them, too, but mostly I #persist because I don't like bullies.
I have no idea. The point is i was one of the first 11000 people on the platform. I won't be silenced.
I keep posting on the Birdhouse because I was there before they are. Their throttling of accounts is so pathetic and obvious. Just like everything else they do.
Half an 18th century woman's shoe. Found it in the attic of new to me but very old house. An apotropaic deposit! 😍
It's not about where it's run. It's that he thinks that is writing.

okay this is distressing as hell but after more than 20 years of doing this job I've learned that the only way the book gets written is if you sit your arse in the chair and write the book. unacceptable really.
AI is not intelligent. Don't use it. We can always tell. If you can't write your own sentences and research, you shouldn't be a journalist, novelist, student, scholar, or member of Congress. Full. Stop.
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?
The first Augustinian was elected pope. Ask your neighborhood medieval or early modern historian why this is important in 2025. Hint: it has to do with the importance of learning
Also: Harvard for the win.
From @VillanovaU mission statement. This is the university that Pope Leo XIV attended, highlighting learning as the path to truth, respecting diversity as a path to unity, and compassion as a way to unconditional love. We need this kind of leadership. #veritas #unitas #caritas
So proud of our discipline for this list.
Kudos to their publishers, too, for making this important work available at this perilous moment in American History. Random House, @oxfordunipress.bsky.social, @uchicagopress.bsky.social
I am immensely proud to be a historian at this moment and see my field represented with this excellent scholarship by @kathleenduval.bsky.social, Edda Fields Black, and @sethrockman.bsky.social.
This year's Pulitzer in history is shared by @kathleenduval.bsky.social and Edda L Fields-Black
Edda L. Fields-Black wins the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for History.

Combee: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom During the Civil War

(The History category has two winners this year.)
And another round of applause for anoyher UCDavis historian, @sethrockman.bsky.social, for being one of the three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize in history. #GoAggies
