I’m devastated to hear the Journeys grant was terminated today. The experience and mentorship I gained from participating in this workshop helped me land my current dream job at the GSS Lab. This is a devastating blow for the discipline.

It's hard to find the words. NSF just terminated the grant for Journeys, a mentoring workshop that tried to tackle underrepresentation of women in international relations. Future scholarship will be the worse for it. But this photo from our last gathering will motivate me to keep fighting.

I’m so sorry, Sabrina. This project is important for many reasons, but perhaps most important is its potential to help save lives given that killings are a common implication of police violence. This is the type of work that makes both the discipline and the world better.

Today, I received a termination for my National Science Foundation CAREER Grant, which employed a post-doc and many undergraduate research assistants.

I’d like to dedicate my first post to the 2023 EGEN conference hosted by @sabrinamkarim.bsky.social and Emily Jackson @ Cornell University. One of the BEST professional experiences of my life. 10/10 would recommend for all doing empirical research on gender and politics.

Gender and Security Sector Lab Workshop happening today: Great presentations by Almira Sadykova-DuMond on how curfews affect terrorism; @zinab.bsky.social on how aid quality affects incumbent support in Afghanistan; and DeAnne Roark on how conflict processes affect gendered transitional justice
