I had a list of movies I wanted to throw at @xtinemakepeace.bsky.social to ask "Is this is a slasher?" and Saw was on it. It kind of is? Killer has an MO, traps people in a single place, has a style for killing (though he'd say he doesn't kill, but he totally kills)
"Sure you don't want to watch a man die by having pig carcasses dropped on him? No, I don't know what part of this actually kills him, but it sort of makes sense. No?" Me confirming that no, my sane husband does not need to see the scene where pig carcasses pile up on a man in Saw III
totally! And I think writing is ESPECIALLY hard to separate, because it's direct from the artist's brain, whereas Ruth Gordon isn't necessarily an extension of Roman Polanski, if that makes sense
1 for me:if the reader/watcher took some form of art & found deep meaning that directly impacted their life,it's sometimes really hard to take that away just because the creator is awful.I won't financially support a monster, but I also don't want the monster to have power to take away my experience?
Funny, my initial reaction to this thread was,"Oh I guess I just didn't speak up to say ME3GAN is a slasher"but then I thought about it 2 more second and realize I don't consider the first Child's Play a slasher, so why would this be one? She's killing to protect, which kinda doesn't fit the profile?
I wish more people would talk about Dark Touch. It’s so good and heartbreaking
As promised, the latest episode of The Feminine Critique is @xtinemakepeace.bsky.social and me slicing deep into our favorite slashers, while also tying our brains in knots trying to figure out exactly what makes a movie a slasher. Have a listen! The Feminine Critique wherever pod stuff happens
Part of it was obviously better programs/costumes, but as soon as she started skating, I could totally see how different it felt!
When she came out in a bun in that short program, I could feel your joy
A few days ago, we setup bird feeders that seem to primarily attract titmice. I don't know how long it will take for me to not giggle every time I say "titmouse", but so far, the answer is definitely not "a few days"

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world,... I feel like I can't take it. And my heart is just going to cave in.
One of my all-time favorite in-the-theater experiences, though I've soured a bit on just how bro-y it feels today. Dumb fun so long as you don't have to think too hard!
"What do you want to be when you grow up?", they asked young Emily. "Robey's hair," she replied
OMG YOU ARE. Okay, so tell me if I'm crazy after, but I remember watching the Rob Lowe one and after part 1 thinking, "this is good?" and then it immediately was not
AMC, you're airing Jason Takes Manhattan and editing out the actual head punch? What in Vancouver is WRONG with you?
OH MY GOD IT IS AND YOU’RE KILLING IT
Final Destination but it’s the Mets as a team seeing the death of the postseason and occasionally finding a way to delay it, but never actually succeeding
one of the many great things about library book sales:get works by awful people w/o giving them a cent.So please, know that the Mario Batali cookbook on my shelf brought $3 to my local library&nothing to him(&know that I'll probably make a point of explaining that anytime you look at my bookshelf)
Yes! What a joy! And I KNEW Kat had to be Maddy Hubbell!
okay, got the subscriptions confirmation (in my spam folder). I could have SWORN I already confirmed last week, but I guess that would have also gone into my spam folder and expired. So yes, make sure everyone knows to check spam for the initial confirmation!
what email address would it be coming from?
