A late one: V/H/S/HALLOWEEN
dcfilmdom.com/2025/10/v-h-...
Thought this one would be better, considering its trick-or-treat season throughline. The two stories I liked the best--"Ut Supra Sic Infra" and "Kidprint--are good enough to get this movie into the "good for a watch" zone.

V/H/S/Halloween : Movie Review | DC Filmdom
Two standout stories in V/H/S/Halloween are enough to balance out their ho-hum companion pieces, where the twists and action feel like the filmmakers were trying too hard to create something shocking ...

Movie Review - TRON: ARES
dcfilmdom.com/2025/10/tron...
A thrilling chase film that has some of the best CGI I've seen in years. Also, Jared Leto doesn't ruin this terrific sequel. Also also, it's another movie where Gillian Anderson sports a British accent!

A still frame from TRON: ARES. Eve Kim (Greta Lee) stands in focus while Ares (Jared Leto) is out of focus in the foreground. It's got a menacing vibe, especially with the red highlights on Ares' armor glowing, not to mention the fact that Eve's standing on a pier with her back to the water.

Movie Review: GOOD BOY
In US theaters now, UK and Irish cinemas on Friday 10/10. Wherever you are, get on it. Indy's a lovely dog and, surprisingly, a good actor! Here's my review over at DCFilmdom.com:

Saw this last night. As a TRON fan since I was six years old, this was a treat.

Movie Review: ELEANOR THE GREAT
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/elea...
Wonderful performances--especially from Rita Zohar as a Holocaust survivor--drive this "lie gone completely out of control" movie. Scarlett Johansson's directorial feature debut stays respectful and solemn... with a touch of the impish.
A photo from the film ELEANOR THE GREAT featuring June Squibb, Erin Kellyman, and Chiwetel Ejiofor sitting at a dinner table.

Movie Review: ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/one-...
Paul Thomas Anderson's take on an action drama is powerful stuff.
One of 2025's best.
One of PTA's best.
Playing IN VISTAVISION in London, NYC, and LA. Watch it there if you can.
DMV folks: It's playing in 70MM at the AFI Silver.
A photo from the film ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, featuring Perfidia (Teyana Taylor) marching Col. Lockjaw (Sean Penn) at gunpoint through a detention facility while fireworks go off behind them.

Movie Review: HIM
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/him-...
A brutal movie about what it takes to earn GOAT status that uses disparate cinematic elements to say... everything and nothing. Sound and fury in search of a message about childhood dreams turning into adult nightmares as one strives for greatness.
A publicity still from Justin Tipping's film HIM, featuring Cameron Cade's (Tyriq Withers) face above a purple-pink pool of water that the rest of his body is submerged in.

Movie Review: SPINAL TAP II: THE END CONTINUES
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/spin...
As a musician and a fan of Spinal Tap, this movie made me laugh. It's a different thing than the 1984 original, but it still has the heart that endeared the film AND the band to me.

A still photo from SPINAL TAP II: THE END CONTINUES featuring a shot of a crowd (some of whom are holding up signs and mini-Stonehenge replicas) in front of the band Spinal Tap, who are playing on stage with a projected backdrop of a flaming demon skull.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Long Walk
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/the-...
The third of four filmed Stephen King adaptations to be released this year.
Powerful in its simplicity and its fight for humanity amid dehumanization.
The cast is spectacular.
The parallels to our own lives, even more so.

Movie Review: THE CONJURING: LAST RITES
dcfilmdom.com/2025/09/the-...
Michael Chaves' best of his Conjuring Universe films. Much more enjoyable and solid than THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT, Chaves makes more confident choices and does not hold anything back.

Movie Review: CAUGHT STEALING
Darren Aronofsky's adaptation of Charlie Huston's novel (for which Huston wrote the screenplay) is one of those movies that doesn't stop being weird, being a lot, or being terrific.

Movie Review: RELAY
dcfilmdom.com/2025/08/rela...
This low-key thriller cannot contain its undeniable energy. Riz Ahmed and Lily James are absolutely excellent in this, and the script and direction are flawless. One of the best I've seen in 2025.

Movie Review: FREAKIER FRIDAY.
dcfilmdom.com/2025/08/frea...
Does it have its faults? Yes.
Do those faults doom this movie? No.
I had a lot of fun with it. Sometimes, a spectacular vibe *can* help offset negatives. Which, to be honest, were not plentiful in this movie.

He and James DeMonaco wrote it brilliantly. I don't get the terrible reviews, either--it's intelligent and very well-performed. Maybe reviewers wanted something else when it wasn't. As a person whose mother was in a rest home for a time (she's at home now), this hit me a little more than most.

Movie Review: THE NAKED GUN
dcfilmdom.com/2025/07/the-...
This is my final review of any Paramount Pictures film, and I'm grateful that it was a good one. (The movie, that is; the review is up to you.) As a longtime fan of the NAKED GUN movies, this one was a gem.

Movie Review: THE BAD GUYS 2
dcfilmdom.com/2025/07/the-...
The voice cast has been kept low-key, relying on authenticity rather than HUGE NAME ACTORS who are wrong for their parts. The story and action are fantastic, but it always comes back to the cast, who absolutely shine.

Movie Review: THE HOME
dcfilmdom.com/2025/07/the-...
This got savaged among the Rotten Tomatoes cognoscenti.
I am not one of them.
And the more I thought about this movie, the more I liked about it.
The Home : Movie Review
“Youth is wasted upon the young,” as the saying goes, and The Home is a fine example of this aphorism turned into reality.
