Heather’s disinterest in the nature aspect of her brief, and the specific issues raised in the bill, bordered on the staggering at times.
I worked on this terrible bill in then Senator Grace O’Sullivan’s office, with @whittledaway.bsky.social, @naturenymph.bsky.social, @fintankelly.bsky.social, @aliceeire.bsky.social and many others. We had to campaign for months just to remove a section that would have decimated our hedgerows.
Heather Humphreys was a disaster as minister in charge of heritage and nature. She didn't meet nature groups and seemed to have no interest in her job expect for when it came to weaking wildlife laws to allow more burning and hedge-cutting.

Heather Humphreys was ‘unsympathetic’ to fears over change to wildlife law, say activists

Reports of large-scale destruction of centuries-old native broadleaved trees and hedgerows in Co. Cork are truly shocking.

The Green Party is today calling for a thorough investigation to be led by the NPWS Wildlife Crime Directorate alongside An Garda Síochána.

For me it’s pointing to a general sickness and extremism in American culture. They’re not a well people

No new money for nature restoration, a static heritage budget and nothing meaningful to fix our rivers, lakes and estuaries.

My response to heritage, nature, water measures in the FFG/Ind. first budget. #budget26

Well, it's official. After our paper last year (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....), the Slender-billed Curlew is officially declared Extinct today.

Scientists dream of describing new species, not writing their obituary and epitaph, knowing that they are gone forever #ornithology

I still can't believe that they're doing this. Giving a massive VAT tax break that'll do very little for small cafés and restaurants, while giving millions to big chains.

Weak, unfocused governance. They're too comfortable chucking out our tax money.
It's official. They're giving big restaurant chains a massive tax cut, costing nearly €700m in the #VAT cut to hospitality.

For that kind of money you could:

👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Bring in a second tier of child benefit - lifting 55,000 children out of poverty
🚌 Make public transport free

The Residential Zoned Land Tax #RZLT is essential to take land hoarders to task and ensure that our many empty sites lying idle in the country are put to use.

Government loopholes are gutting the Land Hoarding Tax. Empty sites stay empty. Hoarders keep winning.

Over the summer, the Government raided the Climate & Nature fund to pay for gaps in their infrastructure bill. Today's Budget could have fixed that and committed new investment for nature and the environment.
Unfortunately, there has been no change in their approach. A wasted opportunity.
Considering turnout is usually around 50%, safe to say most of them won’t be voting.
Couldn’t get through but sounding good

A big blanket VAT cut? It's a bad idea. Better to give smarter, more targetted supports for cafes and restaurants.

We've set out a way to give more to small businesses while spending about a third of what the government are planning.

Be smart: do more, spend less!

Am I doing that right?

This week, right-wing groups in the ENVI & AGRI Committees have shown once again how little they care about nature and people by rejecting the EU forest monitoring law.

Knowing how our forests are doing is crucial to keep them healthy, keep us healthy, fight #ClimateChange and safeguard our future.
That moment was so shocking in its ignorance and arrogance that it made the national news here in Ireland. Staggeringly stupid and indefensible

✅ Pledge fulfilled

Prior to the election, we pledged to fund public services and end Dublin city's bizarre local property tax cut.

We've done that tonight, raising €65m+ for fixing roads, tackling dereliction, insulating homes, and new zebra crossings.

Tonight the Greens are ending a bad tax cut in Dublin City Council. We want to invest instead.

We'll be raising money to insulate social housing, bring derelict properties into use, offer pprenticeships, and build zebra crossings.

Oh shite been there - British rail just seems to collapse in the heat. Sorry for your pain, was always able to crash with cousins when it happens but it would almost put you of it all
