Thanks to @wshed.bsky.social I got to watch this in an actual cinema instead of my piddly television, which really helped the glorious visuals pop. The acting was great too, but my goodness the visuals!

#Hooptober bonus watch #7, Guillermo del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN!

Got a preview screening thanks to #lff25 and I’m sure this will be an epic highlight. Del Toro does live his monsters with humanity, so this should be perfect for him.

That was a treat. I had already seen this a bunch of times but @deathandvanilla.bsky.social breathed new life into it. Plus watching it with an audience who appreciated Michael Hordern’s performance was great too.

Soon I’ll be watching Whistle And I’ll Come To You with a live score by @deathandvanilla.bsky.social

A fun little treat for my #hooptober challenge thanks to @cubecinema.com

Normally a December watch for me, but I’ll make an exception for this special occasion.

That was certainly a very Lanthimos film, with amazing performances by Emma Stone and Plemons. Disturbingly 2025.

#nowwatching my #hooptober bonus film #5, Bugonia!

A sneaky addition thanks to #lff25 and @wshed.bsky.social also the second new release this year where Emma Stone gets her life upended by our conspiracy loving world.

Such a great film, not entirely what I was expecting but I’m glad it surprised me. There’s a lot to this film, and I’ll definitely want to see more of Jafar Panahi’s work soon.

#nowwatching my first film of the #lff2025 line that’s come to @wshed.bsky.social It Was Just An Accident

My gradual dive into Iranian cinema continues. I’ve been amazed so far by how much amazing cinema is unknown in the west. Sure this will impress as well.

Well that was fun. Glad to see the comedy potential of three dumbasses getting in way over their heads is recognised the world over

#nowatching my #hooptober film 17/31 and my pick for a film from a former Soviet state (Kazakhstan)

Honestly, I'm just in the mood for some horror comedy right now. Lets see if those wacky Kazakhs can bring the mirth along the gore.

It’s time to show my #lastfourwatched

We have me finishing off the zombie portion of #hooptober with one classic and one not so classic.

Plus two New York tales from its dirtbag era, one a serious drama, one absolutely not. But both great.

I know that some consider Day one of Romero’s less strong offerings, but I consider it to be absolutely brilliant. Almost as good as Dawn, but at times a more melancholic feel for the passing of the world.

#nowatching my #hooptober film 16/31 and zombie film 5/5, George A. Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD!

Closing out the zombie portion of the Hooptober challenge with the closing entry of the Dead Trilogy. I had an absolute blast revisiting these for the first time in years.

Well I watched this purely based on the title, so I got that mystery tape from the video store experience again. And like most people back then the film didn’t quite live up to its epic cover. Fun, but rather slight.

#nowatching my #hooptober film 15/31 and zombie film 4/5, CHOPPER CHICKS IN ZOMBIETOWN!

Mostly picked for the evocative name and the fact that I should have at least one Troma flick in my list. Plus the fact it’s available on rarefilmm dot com

The debut giallo of Sergio Martino has him hit the ground running. Lots of twists, glamour, boobs and blood. Plus that rarity in giallo films, a plot that makes sense!

#nowatching my #hooptober film 14/31 and my pic for a film written by Ernesto Gastaldi, The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh.

What's better than a sexy giallo? One which stars Edwige Fenech of course!

Did a #hooptober bonus watch of the film where Nic Cage gives his most twisted performance, Vampire’s Kiss!

You could choose to watch it as a satire on shallow yuppies. Or you could join the audience in delighting in Nic eating a pigeon.

Hooptober bonus watch #3 Last time I watched and reviewed this I did it as a searing indictment of the soulless and hollowness that was Reaganite hyper capitalism and the people within it. This time I...

A film that’s a big influence on what the sound era horrors are going to look and feel like. Good fun, even if they changed the ending to something more Hollywood.

#nowatching my #hooptober film 13/31, book adaptation 4/4 and my silent film pick, The Magician.

I remember reading W. Somerset Maugham’s tale of a magician most definitely not based on Aleister Crowley *wink* terrorising Edwardian society and loving it.

It’s #lastfourfriday

This time we have three #hooptober watches, in the form of a Czech examination of the mind of a fascist, British The Last of Us but not really and synthetic fleeeeeesh!

Plus a woman gets drunk in Berlin, but arthouse.

Well that was a nice bit of pre-Hays Code horror fun. Helped a lot by having the highest concentration of mad scientists in a single film ever. Also by having Fay Way threaten to shoot the comic relief.

#nowatching my #hooptober film 12/31 and my pick for a film from 1932, Doctor X!

The cast is a who’s who of thirties Hollywood talent (The director of Casablanca, Michael Curtiz. Fay Way is here in another genre classic) so I’m hyped for some mad scientist goodness!

I hadn’t watched this in years and years till I watched it for this year’s #hooptober

Glad to report it was still a classic. Was absolutely amazed at how Romero and co were able to do so much with so little.
