Only new years resolution I've made this year is to try and read more books. Used to get though 30-40 a year but thats dropped to 10-15 over the last few years

First book finished is this on Englands World Cup win. Decent read and covered lots I wasn't familiar with despite how well known it all is

Half our systems aren't working at work this morning. Random assortment of things and after quick search online..... AWS is down. Do wonder if this move to everyone using the same 3 or 4 cloud services is a good idea, aren't we just creating a small number of ways to take down half the internet?

#England have made #WorldCup and Euro's qualifying routine and boring over the last decade or so. It hasn't always been this way (I'm old enough to remember not qualifying, more than once) and means they don't get the credit they should for it. Regularly qualifying with games to spare is impressive

16th book of the year

First read this excellent book by @simonkuper.bsky.social many years ago. Re-reading it now, it's a fascinating series of snapshots of almost a bygone era. So much has changed since then that it might be as fascinating to re-vist them all today
