What’s at stake if policymakers fail to support academic medicine? The next life-saving treatment. The physician who cares for your family member. The trauma center that can save your neighbor’s life. The research that can cure your rare disease.
The impact of federal actions on academic medicine and the U.S. health care system
The cumulative impact of proposed cuts to Medicaid, NIH, student loan programs and more would have a devastating impact on academic health systems.

I’m thankful today, and every day, for so many things, including being a member of the academic medicine community and for the unflagging work of the whole @aamc.org team to transform health care and improve the health of people everywhere.

Building trust means communicating clearly and transparently. I enjoyed this @jama.com podcast with a great discussion on how to present numerical information to support shared decision-making with patients. Give it a listen! edhub.ama-assn.org/jn-learning/...
Five Things to Do When Communicating Medical Numbers
Health care professionals often use numbers to guide decisions, monitor patient health, and communicate information. Author Angela Fagerlin, PhD, of the University of Utah joins JAMA Senior Editor Anne Cappola, MD, ScM, to discuss how providing numerical information may be helpful in shared decision-making with patients.

The worlds of cardiology and academic medicine lost an exemplary clinician, researcher, and teacher in the passing of Dr. Natesa Pandian. I learned so much from my career-long friend and colleague, and I will miss his thoughtful insights and humor. Thinking of his family at this difficult time.

I was proud to see @universityofiowa.bsky.social — my former institution — highlighted here. A team at @uihealthcare.bsky.social helped save the world’s most premature baby, using hemodynamic screening, a technique that halves the risk of death or severe brain bleeding for very premature babies.
