Former journo, left for pastures news. I enjoy good books, old footpaths, folklore, writing, watching wildlife and tennis and most geeky things involving goblins.

The Scandi countries are the benchmark for me.
Psycho has a very similar vibe - the main character is offed halfway through!
I sometimes think of the country we would be if inequality/poverty/corporate greed got half the attention small boats do.
The sad thing is that they benefit from the "all the same" narrative - even when behaviour/controversy is totally not the same. Had heated words with my Dad earlier who was getting very uptight about the Reeves story - comparing it to the Tory scandals etc. He's a Labour voter too!
No candidate in a red rosette takes their nanny doorstepping that's for sure...
The Democrats need to reflect on why a guy who sounds like Robert Jenrick was in contention.
Also if we are going to try and reinterpret fantasy epics as parables for modern times Denethor, Steward of Gondor, descends into paranoid madness after live-streaming fearful misinformation from the dungeons of Barad-Dur
I think it was Stewart Lee who pointed out that American rednecks who were totally nonplussed by Kirk romancing olive-green Orion slave girls nearly had a coronary when he kissed Uhura.
The number of people who seem to love the same sci-fi and fantasy as me but have picked up none of their core messages is depressing. In everything from Dr Who to Star Wars to V for Vendetta the main villains are deranged Nazis.
To be fair, local elections are too often treated as a more interactive opinion poll as to who is in power in Westminster. The idea that people getting in actually run services and make decisions is largely ignored.
Far better just to invite the bloke on to your channel to talk bollocks for money while pretending to be a serious news outlet.
Need a few investigative reporters to get into Reform meetings - if Pochin can voice concern about seeing black people on live TV then I'm damn sure worse is being said behind closed doors by the rank and file.
Let's be honest, if this what a sitting MP feels bold enough to say in a TV interview, what does he reckon the Reform rank and file say in their private constituency meetings and down the pub? And does that suggest the racism accusation has some legs?
This must be called out relentlessly. That is not just the moral thing to do, it is the smart one. There will be people in Reform for whom there is literally no red line - they have already lost one MP who was more militant than even Farage. Force the divisions into the open.
Although Labour's record on rapid response is pretty patchy in this area, both Streeting and Lammy were unequivocally damning today. Which is a low bar, but still...
From more recent history, May blew a 20pt poll lead in the short campaign - having destroyed Lab in local elections about a month earlier.
Also environmentalists, the civil service, trade unions, judges middle-class liberals, people with autism....
I have thought this about Yusuf in particular, he has never held elected office and yet for some reason a party bag-carrier is platformed constantly.
Imagine if someone from the Greens or Socialist Campaign Group had made comments to the effect of them being sick of seeing so many Jewish people in the media....
She'll be horrified to discover that 80 per cent of her Parliamentary group went to public school as well.
If she's fucked off about this, imagine how narked she'll be to discover how much media coverage a party with 5 MPs gets.
I bet he loves the smell of napalm in the morning too...
