‘Resting’ journalist. Cat is Bob and we live in Liverpool. He likes chasing things, eating and sleeping. I like LFC, The Archers and making my way round on a bike. 🚲
If cats came to Britain 2,000 years ago, isn’t it therefore clear that ‘BC’ refers to ‘Before Cats’ and ‘BCE’ to ‘Before Cats (in) England’.

Even worse than it seems, given that Irish GDP figures are essentially meaningless.
On the surface, Eurozone growth looks pretty decent all things considered. But when looking under the hood, the picture worsens considerably:

- Ireland (4% of the EZ) accounts for 40% of growth
- Spain (10%) accounts for 20%
- Half of the Eurozone is growing at 0.5% or below

It’s a brilliant short series. It’s fair and even handed. If the Telegraph had watched to the end, they would have heard Olusoga highlight the contradictions in our shared heritage with an illustration from his own family.
1/5 It was entirely predictable that The Telegraph would jump on @DavidOlusoga’s Empire series to fight its right wing culture war for control of our public history. Let’s see what they’ve done:

You do wonder how this managed to get so many series. The plotting is plodding, there are so many times one can watch a large car being driven down the empty roads of Shetland. And the ‘resolution’ appears to require some left field intervention at odds with the plot.

I want a tax specifically on Being John Redwood.
@zackpolanski.bsky.social wants to introduce a wealth tax of 1% on assets of over £10m & 2% on assets over £1bn & if the super rich want to leave the UK because they are being taxed a tiny amount more then we should wave them goodbye

Thatcherite John Redwood says 1% isn't a tiny amount.

But when I asked the Foreign Office if the British ambassador to Algeria would attend Tadjadit’s trial, they said that he would not, suggesting that his appearance would be tantamount to interference in the Algerian legal process.
Algeria’s protest poet will need more than awards to avoid a life in prison.

Jailed for his verse, former fruit seller Mohamed Tadjadit has exposed the Algerian regime’s weaknesses. But that may not help his case, writes @stevebloomfield.bsky.social: https://bit.ly/3JPyHso

tbh Polanski seems to have avoided most of the big MMT heffalump traps (allowing that "inflation doesn't go higher" was a misspeak), I'm relatively impressed at whoever's advising him.
