Thoughts on Dallas' loss to the Rangers in overtime, and why there's no reason to fret.

Stray Observations (Game 27): DeSmith did everything he could for two points versus the Rangers, but must settle for one

Sweet little move by Mavrik Bourque on that rush.

One of the more aloof features of Dallas' elite power play is that, yes, they tend to give up chances against.

PK unit watch: the shorthand squad of Colin Blackwell, Sam Steel, Esa Lindell, and Miro Heiskanen still with just one goal against in 14:35 TOI together.
December 3, 2025 at 1:06 AM
Big moment for Mavrik Bourque, slotting in next to Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson in Seguin's absence. Didn't get an assist on that Capobianco goal, but was essential to making that goal happen.

The hockey gods and Tyler Seguin must have a bloodfeud. Sucks to see.
December 3, 2025 at 12:19 AM
Great stuff from Robert as always (and not just because I enjoyed the diplomatic pot shots at Guerin).
December 2, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Me. Probably everyone. Maybe even GMs like like Drury who have been Guerin-brained.
Alexis Lafreniere and Braden Schneider for Jason Robertson (assuming Dallas can't agree to a contract extension). Who says no? #NYR #TexasHockey

Lots of Dallas Stars tidbits in this one. Talking Jason Robertson's continued heater, Lian Bichsel's injury, systems, special teams, trade deadline fluff, and their dominant win over Ottawa. dcastillo.substack.com/p/stars-stuf...
Stars Stuff: Systems taking shape, Jason Robertson's heater can't be stopped, Lian Bichsel injured, and why trade talks might pick up
Let's go from A to Z.

Fun fact: In the analytics era, no team has generated higher shot quality on the man advantage, adjusted for minutes, than the Dallas Stars, clocking in at 12.39 expected goals per 60 to lead all 584 rosters since 2007.

Postgame quicktake: The Dallas Stars have been able to build this now-firing-on-all-cylinders system in a cave. With a box of AHL scraps.

Wyatt Johnston is now on a 91-point pace.

From 4th to 23rd. The Dallas Stars have been an elite penalty killing team for years. Why are they struggling? And can Alain Nasreddine and the group bounce back? (Spoiler: they will)

Damn that sucks. For a 21-year old defenseman, Lian Bichsel looked like a veteran at times and seemed to be finding his groove.

Yea I don't care if they get scored on in the third period. This is still relevant.

With his 16th goal on his 108th shot, Jason Robertson is *still* below his career shooting percentage of 15 percent. Splitting hairs at this point, but still.
December 1, 2025 at 12:28 AM
For all the discussion about the PK, just your friendly reminder that the unit of Sam Steel, Colin Blackwell, Miro Heiskanen, and Esa Lindell have only been on the ice for one power play goal against.

It's not the same as turning the clock back, but Tyler Seguin occasionally has the juice.
November 30, 2025 at 11:22 PM
I realize Vladislav Kolyachonok was always going to be the first one to be cut, but I thought he was quietly Dallas' best replacement. Made some mistakes getting out of the zone, sure, but could make things happen in the OZN, and was overall more fluid than the rest.

Postgame recap of Dallas' 4-3 win over Utah. Really great special teams is certainly one way to ensure a comeback, and for one night the Stars had both firing on all cylinders.
