OTD 2/16/1957:
Ingmar Bergman's immortal classic THE SEVENTH SEAL premierd in Sweden.

Brilliant allegory of faith, life & death. Most iconic scene: a chess match with death.

Who are you?
I am Death.
Have you come for me?
I have long walked by your side.
I have noticed.

I despise AI customer service. I usually end up in some irrelevant loop and find it nearly impossible to bypass it and get a human on the phone.
This is not progress.

First watch: VICE SQUAD (1953).
While not his best role, Edward G. Robinson’s turn as police Capt. Barnaby is worth a watch.

It’s a day-in-the-life crime film with Barnaby seeking a cop killer while trying to thwart a bank heist.

Rewatch: THE HEIRESS (1949), a flawless story of a naive, wealthy woman (Olivia de Havilland) pursued by a handsome fortune hunter (Montgomery Clift).

Director William Wyler’s film is beautifully made, with remarkable performances by the two leads and a fine supporting cast.

Love this neon sign of the original Post Bar in #Detroit.

The bar first opened in 1978 near Cobo Hall, but moved to its new location on Broadway in 2024.

Now the original sign is inside the bar (with a smaller version outside).

File under TMI.

Sad to hear of Bud Cort’s death.

He and Ruth Gordon are one of my favorite film couples as Harold & Maude, which has much more depth than it often gets credit for.

Rewatch: DELIVERANCE (1972), an unsettling film of four city men on a horrific canoeing trip in rural Georgia.

It explores survival amidst brutal yet beautiful terrain while tapping into Appalachian stereotypes, especially for a rape scene that still shocks.

Turns out it’s Sunset Blvd, an 80s tribute band, haha.

What’s not to love when Jack the Ripper wanders London’s fog-shrouded, cobblestone streets at night?

Rewatch: DETOUR (1945), an absorbing B-#noir that succeeds far beyond its meager budget.

What is it about opening diner scenes (also see THE KILLERS, 1946) that propel #FilmNoir to intense storylines—here with Tom Neal’s character stuck between tragic fate and bad decisions.
