First one made me lol

Asked if death threats like Shildt mentioned are commonplace:

"That's unfortunately kind of part of it... It's unfortunate."

Preller says he thinks the Padres do a great job of handling those situations. It has come up with players and staff members over time.

A.J. Preller said he is aware that Mike Shildt received death threats during the season.

Preller on Luis Campusano: "He's going to be in the mix for us for sure next year."

Said he's a guy that kills it in the offseason every year, they expect him to be ready.

Says it will be a fun conversation to see what that looks like and how he can help the club next season.

What Preller is looking for in manager:

- Baseball knowledge

- Relating to people, being honest with players, able to deliver messages to different guys

- Values org. and winning championships

- Embraces expectations

- Loves to talk the game, gather info to make decisions

Preller said they will get a candidate list together today.

Want to get quality candidates together, more concerned with being thorough in their process than having a manager in place on a certain timeline.
darnay.bsky.social
Preller: "I love the Padres & San Diego. Proud to be part of this thing."

Says he looks forward to having conversations with John Seidler and the group this offseason.

Focus is on building a championship team and sustainable success.

Looks forward to offseason and the future.

Preller said the Shildt news was more of a surprise than a shock.

When they left Chicago he asked for a few days to recharge. They kept in touch while he was in NC and Saturday he told the front office he didn't have the energy to continue.

A.J. Preller said he had great conversations with Mike Shildt the last few days. Said one of the reasons Shildt considered coming back was his working relationship with Preller.

Said they are getting lunch in a few hours.

Haha I’ll pass that along, thanks for watching Scott.

The question is, what *specifically* about managing the Padres took a severe mental, physical and emotional toll on Mike Shildt?
darnay.bsky.social
If Ruben Niebla wants to manage is there any reason why the Padres shouldn’t give him the job?
darnay.bsky.social
Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. will enter their eight season together with the Padres, without playing for a single manager for more than two years during that time.

Really thought Mike Shildt would be the end of that trend.

Soyeux.

Happy Saturday!

We’ve worked for 18 months on a three-part series about @sandiegofc and the arrival of MLS.

Today the finale is out.

Enjoyed reliving the roundabout path that led to SDFC.

They’re here, and they’re making history.

“This club will be a giant.”
