I've started rewatching Nurse Jackie. I remember it as good, but it's even better than I remembered.

Family drama 😱😱😱

Drama begins at my brother's house, where he's rooting for OSU, and his wife's rooting for Michigan, which is, of course, sacrilege.

Sometimes when I feel angry, generally, at the state of the world (well, really, the state of the U.S.), I watch this video and feel a little better from vicariously giving the Stevie death stare.

Like most historians, I'm pretty immune to both doomerism and utopianism. But I have to admit, it takes a lot of effort for me to resist the allure of doomerism when I contemplate the future impacts of LLMs. What they seek to replace are the very things that make us human--thinking and expression.

/9 George Santos is amusing because Americans are slowly boiling frogs; a sane society would see him as the subnormal psychopath he is. But he sells, and people like Tara Palmeri let him indulge in wild misogynistic defamation to make money from him, like a remora clings to a shark for scraps.

Each July 4th Americans celebrate a successful war of anti-colonial liberation.
Each Thanksgiving Americans celebrate the colonists who occupied North America against the will of the original inhabitants.
The rest of the year is spent not thinking about the tense relationship between those 2 things.

So tragic, especially because there was no good reason for West Virginia National Guard members to be in DC. The responsibility for their deaths lands on the shooter, the president who used them for political theater, and the governor who willingly went along with that.
NEW: The governor of West Virginia says that two members of the state National Guard shot today in DC have died.
