I'm confused about the whole thinking about the Roman Empire thing. I studied classical archeology in college. I literally relate everything back to Classical Antiquity. Not just Roman, but Persian and Hellenic as well. So, am I an outlier, or the problem?

The worst part about existing now is I'm smart enough to see what's coming, but not smart enough to mitigate it in any meaningful way. Like being at the beach and watching the tide suddenly go out.

Jane Goodall died. I read her National Geographic articles as a child. She was one of my major inspirations to study Anthropology. I only got to meet her a few times, on her speaking tours, but I feel like I've lost a mentor. I will miss knowing she is out there advocating for the natural world.

With news of the Rapture in two days people are selling their cars and quitting their jobs. Why? It's in two days, if I thought the world was ending I would just no call no show and use whatever transportation was to hand.
