This grant marks an important step in advancing music therapy’s role in supporting recovery and mental health across the state.

Congratulations to Dr. Myers-Coffman!
Their team's yearlong study will expand programming at the Indianapolis Comprehensive Treatment Clinic, establish collaborations with three methadone clinics in high-need Indiana counties, and pilot tailored programming at Dove Recovery House, a residential recovery center for women.
We're very excited to share some research news from IU Indianapolis's music therapy area.

Dr. Kate Myers-Coffman, Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Therapy, has been awarded $310,000 through the State Opioid Response Grant from the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addictions.
A lot of my research integrates learning science and music technology pedagogy. The hard part is finding the right balance and way of presenting what are sometimes abstract concepts in a practical way.
Indeed. Been on both sides of it unfortunately!
I appreciate the perspective. We'll see what happens!
I have no issue submitting elsewhere. I also don't disagree with many of the comments. It just feels like lazy editing. We do this in good faith and it feels somewhat dismissive not to find a compromise towards publication. Maybe I'm wrong, though.
I get that competitive journals don't have a lot of space. I'm puzzled by this one because it's not the first time it's happened, and I'm confused as to why they would reject the positive feedback and only focus on the new comments brought on by nitpicky reviewers. What am I missing here?
We're coming up on a year of work. I'm not new to rejection. But I can't help but be frustrated. Stringing along R&Rs without a reasonable set of expectations is a waste of time. I've asked them to reconsider their decision. As an editor, I find R&Rs are generally a path towards publication. Odd.
After addressing a reviewer's concerns, that person somehow identified NEW issues as a result of what they asked me to change. So, the editors send out to a fourth reviewer, not familiar with the context, who wasn't happy. The journal rejects with no particular reason. I'm torn on this one for sure.
An article for a top journal goes through two rounds of revision. Each time, I responded to all of the comments and addressed concerns within word counts. After the first round, one reviewer recommended publication. After the second round, one brought up minor points. That's not where it ends.
A whole lot of people are fighting these days. Just know that you are seen and appreciated.
I'm really excited to share this article on our work with the Music Technology Academy in TOPICS for Music Education Praxis. This is a joint collaboration between Music and Arts Technology and the IU School of Education Indianapolis.

Manuscript submitted. Now for the long wait.
I will be participating in a Conversations in STEM Education event on Friday October 10th at 2pm on the IU Indianapolis Campus. This event is sponsored by the STEM Education Innovation Research Institute. Looking forward! Links and details forthcoming.
I’ve got a forthcoming article on music technology and learning science using Digital Audio Workstations. It’s challenging trying to fuse these fields together, but rewarding.
Most likely. I addressed what I could and let the editors know about it. Doesn’t bug me but thinking more about grad students and ECRs who might not bounce back from that.
Weird flex when a reviewer gets angry at writing style, but doesn’t actually engage with the ideas in the paper. That’s a new one for me.
Journal article accepted. Thankful.
It’s hard to be a Bengals fan.
