Temperance at 6 looking east. Temperance Fountain with Hebe, the carrier of water, on top. Donated by Henry Cogswell in the late 19th century with the hope people would drink more water and less booze.
Ludlow Street, almost at Canal. The side of the old Loew’s Canal Street Theater, a 2300 seat movie theater, still sitting empty since the 60s. 1) On the way out in the morning, 2) On the way home. Lower East Side.
Bottom of Eldridge Street, Eldridge Street Synagogue on the left and a produce wholesaler providing the nice background glow. Snow taking on the New York look. Lower East Side/Chinatown.
Charles Lane, looking east, as the sky brightens. Charles Lane, “Pig Alley”, the path on the north side of Newgate Prison. Newgate Prison came down in 1825, and the path/lane didn’t have a name (except for “Pig Alley”) until the 1870s. Greenwich Village.
Elvis Under Exit Sign Lighting. Elvis, the old Great Jones Cafe, with a long exposure to gather the light. Elvis bust is no longer in the window. I haven’t been inside but I wonder if “Elvis has left the building”.
