If your elders are still here, talk to them. Have grace as they share their stories because there is still pain, but listen anyway. Ans remember that this wasn't an issue just in the South. Those from the North or Midwest have stories.

They fought it because they knew there would never be “integration.” And they were correct. There was only desegregation and we are paying a hard price for it now. We must claw back educating our own children
