The US now proposes to block all Chinese flights that use Russian airspace, with just 30 days warning. The Chinese airlines are unhappy.

"Specifically, the Department proposes to prohibit...Chinese air carriers from utilizing Russian airspace in their passenger or combination services." #avgeek

US and Chinese carriers are now up to 35 r/t flights between the countries on each side of their bilateral. Still way below what the treaty calls for, but growing.

Will be interesting to see what Russian overflight does or does not happen.

As discussed below, the U.S. Department of Transportation (the Department) is further
modifying the decision reached under 14 CFR Part 213 in Order 2020-6-1 to permit the
above-captioned combination carriers of China to operate additional weekly round-trip
scheduled passenger flights to and from the United States. Specifically, effective November
9, 2023, the specified Chinese carriers may operate, in the aggregate, a total of thirty-five (35)
weekly round-trip scheduled passenger flights to and from the United States.

Great article from @hannahritchie.bsky.social… and the EU ETS can fund action to reduce these non-CO2 climate impacts from aviation (and from shipping - where black carbon has a GWP of 900). It’s really good that this is getting more public attention

The world can count on Europe's climate leadership.

Our Nationally Determined Contribution will range between 66.25% and 72.5%.

And we are working full speed on -90% by 2040.

We are on our way to climate neutrality.

The continued destruction of #Gaza City's health facilities will cause more deaths and further overwhelm already overcrowded hospitals in the south.

Attacks on health facilities must end. The senseless violence must stop. Ceasefire!

Today marks the culmination of European #MobilityWeek 🚲

🛹With 2,448 participating towns & cities across the EU
🛼Car-free Sunday, with Brussels becoming the largest car-free zone in Europe

...and a strong message: rethinking mobility can lead to cleaner air & safer streets.
A vibrant urban street scene with many bicycles parked along the sidewalk. Historic brick buildings line the left side of the street, while modern buildings are on the right. The sun is shining brightly in a clear sky, casting shadows and highlighting the mix of old and new architecture in the old town of Copenhagen.

Great example of revenue from the EU's carbon price used to stimulate transition

✈️ At €75 per tonne, the following ten airlines will receive annual subsidies of between €3 and €20 million to support the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel

💰Total subsidy package of €1.5 billion

I wrote about the groypers and the Fuentes-Kirk fight years ago, in Hate in the Homeland. Cautioning here that there is still a lot to know about the shooter’s motivation, I’m sharing these two paragraphs here to set the history of this fight in context:
