Almost looked like DeAndre wouldn’t reach it.

Gugliotta signed with Boston in 2004, but they traded him to Atlanta after just 20 games. He played in 27 games for the Hawks then retired in 2005. His jersey has been honored by North Carolina State.

In 2004, he was sent to Utah in one of the most celebrated trades in Jazz history. This was just a salary dump for Phoenix and even though Gugliotta got to start on the rebuilding Jazz, he only averaged 3.7 ppg. But the Suns included a 2010 first-round pick in that trade, which became Gordon Hayward

In December 1999, Gugliotta nearly died after taking a shady supplement that was supposed to him sleep. He was hospitalized and it took him several weeks to recover. Unsurprisingly, his production on the court took a hit. He lost his starting job in 2000 and never played more than 57 games a year.

Minnesota offered Gugliotta a seven-year deal. But he allegedly hated playing with Marbury, so he chose to play with Jason Kidd in Phoenix, instead. He wasn't quite as dynamic as he had been before, but he was able to help Team USA win the gold in the 1999 FIBA Americas Championship in San Juan.

Everything came together for Gugliotta in 1996-97. He finally started playing up to his potential and Minnesota's future looked bright with him, Garnett and Marbury. Sadly, this was Gugliotta's only year as an All-Star. He started the next season off strong, until an injured ankle cost him 41 games.

Gugliotta made the All-Rookie First Team, but the Bullets couldn't resist trading him and three first-round picks to Golden State for Chris Webber in 1994. Gugliotta only spent 40 games with the Warriors before they dealt him to Minnesota for Donyell Marshall.

Thomas James Gugliotta was born and raised in Huntington Station, New York. He attended North Carolina State primarily because his dad was friends with Wolfpack coach Jim Valvano. Gugliotta made the All-ACC First Team in 1992 then was drafted sixth by the Washington Bullets that same year.

#OneMagicSeason: Tom Gugliotta, 1996-97, 1 MVP point
20.6 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.6 spg, 1.1 bpg, All-Star
Minnesota Timberwolves (40-42)

Gugliotta was the only Timberwolf on the MVP ballot, but Kevin Garnett joined him in the All-Star Game. And Stephon Marbury was runner-up to Rookie of the Year.

I did a quick look, and it seems like the only other person to serve under four prophets was Joseph F. Smith (Brigham Young, John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff and Lorenzo Snow).

They're trying to get you to click on the article. I understand the purpose behind that practice, but I despise it.

Never would have guessed Christofferson!

Mutombo's jersey has been retired by Denver and Atlanta, and he has been named to the Hall of Fame. He devoted his retirement to humanitarian work, building hospitals, combatting polio and supporting the Special Olympics. He sadly died of brain cancer in 2024 at the age of 58.

In 2004, Mutombo was traded to Chicago, who then dealt him to Houston. He spent the last five seasons with the Rockets, primarily as a backup. He only played in nine games in his final season, which was sadly ended by a ruptured quadriceps tendon in 2009.

In 2002, Mutombo was sent to New Jersey, but promptly injured his wrist and only appeared in 24 games for the Nets. In 2003, New Jersey waived Mutombo, but he signed with New York two days later. He only played one season for the Knicks, appearing in 65 games and starting in 56 of those.

In Mutombo's first full season in Philadelphia, he made his eighth and final All-Star appearance. It was also the last time he appeared on any end-of-season teams — All-NBA Third Team and All-Defensive Second Team. The 76ers may have sensed the end of his dominance was approaching and traded him.

In 1999-00, he led the NBA in rebounds for the first time, which he did again the next season, even though he was traded to Philadelphia in February 2001. He finished that year with his fourth and final Defensive Player of the Year, as well as making his only appearance on the All-NBA Second Team.

As stunning as it may seem, Mutombo's first season in Atlanta was the only time he ever appeared on the MVP ballot. But he kept racking up plenty of other accolades. In his second season, he repeated as Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Star, in addition to making the All-NBA Third Team.

Mutombo spent five seasons playing for the Nuggets, earning a total of three All-Star selections and winning the Defensive Player of the Year in 1995. When his contract expired in 1996, he requested a 10-year extension. Denver balked at that notion, so Mutombo signed with Atlanta.

In 1991, Mutombo was drafted by Denver with the fourth pick. In his first season, he was an All-Star, a unanimous choice to the All-Rookie First Team and was the runner-up to Rookie of the Year. Two years later, he led the NBA in blocks — a feat he would repeat over the next two seasons.

Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo was born in Leopoldville, Congo-Leopoldville (which is now Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo). At age 21, Mutombo moved to America and enrolled at Georgetown University, where he was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year twice.

Steve Smith also got MVP votes. Christian Laettner was an All-Star and Mookie Blaylock was All-Defensive Second Team.

I guess “loyal advocate of man-woman marriage” is the most polite way of putting it.
