Sounds like the studio needed to create separate career advancement tracks for design: One where people are eventually in charge of leading other people, and one where people specialize on their hands-on work instead of overseeing others.
Promoting someone with no design XP as design manager is 👎.

I was "too negative" and often I'd be told "we know about the group chats". Girl what group chats?
Turns out there was a WhatsApp group I WASNT EVEN IN where people vented to each other and they got wind and blamed ME.
So I joined the group chat. :)

One time, they wanted to make the HR person the Game Design manager cause none of the senior designers wanted to manage us anymore.
This was 6 mid level designers and 4 junior designers, being told our managers wanna "focus on design"
Just so you have an idea of the insanity we put up with.
