I hear you - I spent months thinking about how I wanted to put a strip of caulk along the front of my shower. Took about 5 minutes when I finally felt I had to do it before guests were coming.

I remember when the right-wing was outraged when federal agents of the Clinton administration took Elian Gonzales from his parents at gunpoint. It was wrong then and it's wrong now. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eli%C3%...

Do you make the code for your simulations available? Also there's a great set of videos with an interview with Conway about the GOL. I always chuckle when he eats one of the almonds he uses for demonstration! www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8kU...

I think this is why Washington was so strongly against political parties. If the congress members were truly representing their states and not their party, things would likely be quite different.

For people into audiobooks, there's a pretty good narration of it available on librivox. librivox.org/my-man-jeeve...

George and Thomas (@tah-sci.com), I just want to say how much I enjoyed your congenial exchange here. It's a great example of how scientific discourse should happen!

That reminds me of an Asimov short story, Feeling of Power, where humans don't know math any more but one reverse engineers some of it, eventually allowing the military to replace expensive computers on missiles with expendable humans. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fee...

Their children's programming is free. The rest is based on credits you get each month via your library. If you have access to more than 1 library (e.g. school, municipal, etc.), each may give you different sets of programming and their own set of credits.

Now's an especially good time to consider if you really need to pay for a streaming service. Your local library likely has a huge number of TV shows and movies available for free. You can also subscribe to free content via any libraries you have an account with at Kanopy: www.kanopy.com/en

Chicagoland seems synonymous with "Chicago Metro Area"... "The Chicago metropolitan area, also called Chicagoland, is the largest metropolitan statistical area in the U.S. state of Illinois and in the Midwest.... The MSA had a 2020 census population of 9,618,502" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago...

Do you need an old version of it? GitBash comes with a version that seems to work just like what I'm used to on Linux.

They are deeply afraid of anything that brings joy or a sense of community and fellowship and that will be their downfall. Few of us truly want to live a life full of anger, fear, and loneliness. And that's all they have to offer.

Is this the same "Chicago School" famous for the economic policies that drive a certain style of global trade?

Years ago I took an AI class that covered things like classifiers, tree searches (Dijkstra's, A*), basic Neural Networks, etc. and the teacher said something that really stuck with me: "What we called 'AI' yesterday is merely 'the algorithm' for doing a thing today." Lot's of that these days.

It's fun to make fun of Gen-Z with something like this until you realize it actually means they're having to quit a job to get any time off before going crazy... and that it's unpaid. It's not a vacation.

Are they saying you should stretch but not for the reasons you thought? I'm confused by "Strength Performance Increase" being in both columns.

I think it's a bike/hike trail that's overgrown with vegetation. One way of dealing with that (particularly with blackberries and other pokey weeds) is turning a bunch of goats loose. They eat it all up, leaving it in much better shape!
