As temperatures drop, your compost pile will slow down and fill up with fallen leaves 🍂. Keep it warm and active by adding nitrogen-rich materials like fruit scraps and coffee grounds. They’ll help balance the mix and speed up decomposition!

A friend in Chicago recently discovered: city residents can drop off their food scraps for free at one of 20 composting locations across the city! 🍎🥦
An easy way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and turn scraps into nutrient-rich soil. Well done, Chicago! 👏

A few weeks into fall, and I’m out for one of the last tomato harvests in my backyard 🍅🍂.

There are still plenty of green tomatoes growing and starting to ripen, so it looks like I’ll get to enjoy a few more rounds of garden-fresh fruits this year!

Did you know banana peels and apple cores can take years to decompose? 🍌 🍎 Left on the ground, they linger—but under leaves or other organic matter, they get heat, moisture & airflow to break down much faster. ✨

Fall clean-up time! 🍂 Old leaves, dead flowers, dried bushes—all perfect for the compost bin.
Just remember to balance your mix: add nitrogen-rich “greens” like veggie scraps, fruit peels, coffee grounds and leftover pumpkins! 🎃 And give your pile a good turn to mix it all in! #fallishere #dryleaves
For anyone who hasn’t joined the composting community yet, here’s a little challenge: try composting food scraps for one week and see how much waste you‘ll keep out of the trash. 🍌🥑🥕 And please share your experience with us!.

Ever opened a yogurt that looked fine outside but was moldy inside? 😬 Probably a sterilization or storage fail. Can’t eat it—but don’t toss it! I'd say, add it to your compost pile instead. I’m a big #CompostEverything believer! 🌱 #MoldyFood #CompostDairy
Who loves sugared strawberries? My kids sure do! We made some today, and of course the parts we didn’t use went straight into the compost bin—just as you might have guessed! 😏🍓

A storm in Wichita caused a bit of garden damage — nothing serious, since most crops were already harvested. A few green tomatoes were shaken loose by the wind, and now they’re sunning in a basket, hopefully turning red soon. 🍅

Some apples from our tree had dark spots, but a quick check on PictureThis showed it’s just sooty blotch—a harmless fungus on the peel. 🍏 We’ll just peel and juice them! A little imperfection doesn’t mean waste.

My garden is growing FAST! Some sunflower stems are close to 10 feet tall — my daughter looks tiny standing next to them. 🌻 The Rose of Sharon bushes are full and blooming beautifully.

The compost mix I worked into the soil is clearly paying off! 🌱✨

I still can’t believe we didn’t finish all the guacamole… but knowing it’ll help nourish my soil in a couple of months makes me feel a little better about it! 🥑

Just hanging out on the tree, all by itself 🍎🌳. The last apple standing, waiting to be picked. This has been a great season in my yard—plenty of fruit, beautiful flowers and lots of greenery. Compost never disappoints! 😉

When your bouquet wilts, just cut up the flowers and stems into smaller pieces and toss them in the compost bin. Flowers are a great source of nitrogen—exactly what your plants need to thrive. 🌸♻️ To me there’s also something poetic about closing the loop like this.

On this year’s International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste we reflect: How minimize what ends up in the trash?
It’s not easy to reduce waste, but composting helps, and every small effort makes a difference.
Let’s do our part for the planet. 🌍

Cheese went moldy? Perfect for the compost! 🧀
Some people avoid adding dairy products to compost because of concerns about smell or bugs, but I've never had an issue.
Just make sure your bin is well-sealed and the cheese is a bit broken down for a head start.

A few bug nibbles on your cantaloupe? No problem! 🍈 Just slice, wash, and enjoy! Perfect fruit doesn’t have to go to waste — scraps straight to the compost bin! ♻️

Quick update on my Reencle moisture-balancing experiment.

It's still pretty wet but nicely broken down. My plan: take most of the mix out to add to the outdoor compost and leave the rest a bit longer to see if the extra space and airflow help it dry out. Stay tuned!

After a long saga of battling fruit flies in my kitchen compost bin, I think I’ve cracked it: electrical tape + foam layer + duct tape. No flies so far! 😎 #kitchenbin #fruitflies
Fruit past its best? 🍓 Don’t toss it—compost it! 🌍♻️ And before you throw packaging away, check if it can be composted, recycled, or reused. Small steps, big impact. #CompostingTips #RecyclingTips #OldStrawberries
Packaging can be functional and eco-friendly 🌍♻️
This yogurt cup has 3 parts: plastic cup (#5 PP), cardboard sleeve & foil lid. All recyclable—just separate them in 10 seconds.
Small actions = big impact.

Just harvested these cantaloupes, tomatoes and cucumbers from my yard—homegrown, chemical-free and thriving thanks to nutrient-rich compost. Honestly, it feels so good! 🍅🥒🍈

Recycling in Switzerland is built into daily life. With separate bins for glass, steel and other materials—even in smaller towns—it’s easy for residents to form sustainable habits that stick. Let’s use this as an inspiration!🇺🇸🇨🇭#amazingswitzerland #separatewaste #recyclingmadeeasy
Switzerland has it all—chocolate, fondue, views. 🇨🇭But what amazes me most? Their trash sorting. Even small towns like Crans-Montana have bins for glass, plastic, paper & waste. ♻️ #AmazingSwitzerland #wastebin
Thought I had my Reencle moisture sorted… until today. 🫤 Soggy mix again! Any tips, fellow composters?

P.S. That green-ish thing is the Ziploc I tossed in a few days ago.
