I believe the ex-pats-don’t-call-us-migrants are tolerated as they’ve bought houses that would otherwise be lying empty and their pensions help the local economies. Actually, the Spanish call them ‘roast beefs’.

Before you c&p a response, look up footage of Chas’ coronation for KoE, his oath as Defender of the Faith - England, and his oath to protect the Protestant faith - Scotland. In the latter he clearly states ‘my two kingdoms’.
You won’t find him taking the oath of ascension to become king of Scot’s.

In England the king is sovereign, in Scotland it’s the people. No English monarch has accepted this divergence.

It’s not the same (Scotland was one kingdom before England was united), but you make a good point: England is effectively 2 countries glued together and could disintegrate given time. And of course there’s celtic Cornwall/Devon pushing for autonomy.
Let the south east make its own way.

Yes, Scotland was forced into a union by a belligerent anti-European neighbour. And when we end that union we could again face a (fascist) belligerent anti-European neighbour, but Scotland will become a EU member.
Independent Scotland and Wales, a reunited Ireland, it’s for England’s benefit too.

That’s right! Scotland made numerous attempts to conquer England, not. Robert 1 invaded to force Eddie 2 to negotiate, Jimmy 4 invaded because he wis a fanny, and there was 1745.
England’s Alien and Navigation acts and the threat of invasion forced the Parcel of Rogues to sell us out.

Ehm, constantly at war due to English aggression and aggrandisement. Scotland was a prosperous European nation before being duped/colonised/assimilated and can be again.
England needs to learn to stand on its own 2 feet.

I did convince her that independence, whilst making little or no difference to her, would be a good thing for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her generation struggle to see past labour, though in fairness my dad thought Blair was a tory plant.

True, my mum voted brexit because of ‘immigrants’ despite having a wonderful Polish family next door. 70 years of post war ‘know your place’ films, reading right wing rags (express, Sunday post etc) dulled her mind.
Epstein/trump for example, I was near despair trying to explain how grooming worked.

You both make fair points, the over 60’s are far more likely to read the shite promulgated by what passes for a media in the uk.
WW2 confirmed the incompetence of the uk ‘ruling class’. Since then the media has pushed an opposing narrative, even well regarded films are suspect The Cruel Sea, etc…

When Stephen House was CC Strathclyde (and first CC PSoS), working with COPFS, he began the process which changed and improved police procedures on Domestic Abuse across Scotland.

House was promoted from London Met and returned there. England has the blueprint to improve Domestic Abuse procedures.
