So, uh, hello everyone! You might recognize me by my previous R. B. LeMoyne Twitter name, or from other corners of the internet (and J!NX) as Cynlan. I play and run TTRPGs, I make homebrew stuff (magic items, subclasses, etc.) for those games, and I've been getting into making battle maps:
A battle map of a town festival, complete with game booths, food tables, vendor booths and various decorations. A battle map of a temple/library to the three fates, perched at the edge of a cliff. A battle map of a massive airship that includes crew stations and quarters, small airship-style lifeboats, and captain's quarters. A battle map of a pathway between two dormitory buildings where something large left an impact crater.

Excerpt from Drexa's journal:

"Hm. I may have to pass this tarot deck on to someone else. I think the illusion magic of this deck has absorbed some of my particular brand of dry wit. And since there's already a sarcastic oracle in this house, time to find it a new home."

Excerpt from Drexa's journal:

"I don’t know if it was delusion on my part... But take up the mace and shield I did, and so too did I bring her journal. This Journal of Fate will chronicle the journey of their chosen, though it will be written from here on out by my hand."

Excerpt from Drexa's journal:

"I don't envy my paladin counterpart. While I seem fated to stand in the spotlight, they stand just outside of that same light, fated to work in the shadows. Theirs is a thankless service, but an essential one to the divine plan."

Excerpt from Drexa's journal:

"It's not easy being a cleric of the Fates. They're as fickle as some say, but by drawing on their power, I can manipulate the ties that bind us all together. In the end, events will unfold according to my... I mean, their design."

Each of them were made with love and represent my earliest efforts of homebrewing for 5e, now updated after several years of homebrew-making experience to fit in with Kobold Press' Black Flag Reference Document so they can be used in Tales of the Valiant campaigns (and, with minimum tweaks, D&D)!

And the staff and orbs are new creations made to emulate magic items that she'd collected over the course of her campaign. While not exactly the same as the originals, the spirit of the time scrying orbs and her magic staff are alive and well in these new iterations (and rebalanced for general use).

Drexa finished the game with those tarot cards, and it only made sense to include them with other fate-based magic items. The journal is her actual IC journal that I would post snippets of in our game's Discord (which now live on AO3), so it only made sense to turn it into a magic item as well...

And while the rogue/pally didn't stick with our group, Drexa made that Fate Domain work for her all the way to lvl 20. Now, I bring those same subclasses out of base 5e and into ToV (and maybe 2024 if there's interest). As for the magic items, the tarot deck was a gift from another PC given IC...

This made for clerics that could support with advantage and bonuses in encounters without getting up close and personal, and paladins that could move unseen and ambush enemies with devastating power, with the narrative thread of fate working in mysterious ways and behaving unpredictably in combat...

And when another player started showing interest in Drexa's deity and wanted to follow a similar but more martial path, I made the Oath of the Fates for paladin. Since their character was multiclassing in with rogue, I chose to complement that by making a paladin that works from the shadows...

While Fate Domains have since popped up from other creators, there really wasn't anything like that at the time, so I made my own and themed it around influencing fate within the game in a real way by affecting the rolls that happen in a session, either with modifiers or advantage/disadvantage...

So, some BTS/history of the fate subclasses and magic items that are currently available in my Ko-fi shop RIGHT NOW (ko-fi.com/s/c707b8db30 ):

I originally made the Fate Domain to get my 5e cleric Drexa, who was previously Knowledge Domain, closer to what I had envisioned for her background...

I need someone more versed in tea than I am to answer a weird hypothetical: If you were going to map different types of tea (green tea, black tea, etc.) to the core 5e abilities (Strength, Wisdom, etc.) how would you pair them up?

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

As for the magic items, two of them previously existed in D&D Beyond while the other three are brand-spanking new! And if you look closely at one of the art pieces (by my wonderful friend @gravitydoll.bsky.social), you can see how the crystal balls and the staff work together.

While the subclasses are made for the BFRD and ToV, they can easily be adjusted for use in either 2014 or 2024 D&D. The Fate Domain is built around influencing rolls at the table (literally affecting the odds of success) while the Oath of the Fates is a more subtle approach to the paladin fantasy.

A few years back, I made a couple of fate subclasses for my cleric and a friend's paladin. Since then, they've been sitting in D&D Beyond... until now! Newly updated using the BFRD for use in Tales of the Valiant, along with a few magic items tied to the Fates! ko-fi.com/s/c707b8db30
