WHO data suggests that the total number of children requiring PC for STH decreased by 21.7 million between 2022 and 2023. This reduction shows the positive impact that global STH control programs have had in helping eliminate suffering from intestinal worm infections in children around the world.
We look forward to seeing the continued impact of their work as the fight continues to #BeatNTDs.
Mr. Nyati discussed how the Ministry of Health is using survey data to identify areas with low or no infection, helping reduce unnecessary PC and achieve cost savings in SCH and STH programs.
Mohamed R. Nyati (SCH and STH Focal Point, United Republic of Tanzania Ministry of Health) presented “Sustainable Financing and Investment in NTD Programs.”
Mr. Luhanga’s presentation shared findings from a program evaluation in Malawi’s 14 post-MDA districts and explored potential opportunities to sustain STH control efforts in these environments.
Michael Luhanga (National Schistosomiasis (SCH)/STH Programme Manager, Ministry of Health, Malawi) presented “Reimagining STH Surveillance Post-MDA Through a Health Systems Strengthening Lens: Lessons from Malawi.”
