“There is far too much power in the hands of professors in the German system,” says @leising.bsky.social.

My latest @nature.com story digs into efforts to tackle the entrenched structural heirarchy that enables academic bullies.
Can Germany rein in its academic bullying problem?
Researchers and administrators are exploring ways to restructure a rigid hierarchy that can breed power abuses.

In the German system, the professor is
- supervisor
- employer
- examiner
of "their" PhD students.
Plus, they usually function as gatekeeper to the relevant scientific community.

What can possibly go wrong? 🤔

Also I never did one of these introductions, so: hello everyone! My name is Nick and I am an Adsorption Process Development Engineer at Svante Technologies. My research now is mostly the numerical optimization of various adsorptive processes with MOFs for CO2 capture.

As promised, here comes our 2nd starter pack with chemists we follow, who are not professors.
This says nothing about the quality, but about the limits of starterpacks.
So for all new chemists coming over here🤗, and those who are already here for a while, enjoy the blue skies and get connected.⚗️

Hello BlueSky!

I'm a Product Manager @hidenisochema.bsky.social, a leading manufacturer of gas & vapor sorption instruments. In my spare time, amongst other things, I write articles like this, on gas #adsorption, #hydrogen storage & #reproducibility:

Challenges in characterizing adsorbents for gas storage and separation - Adsorption
Porous adsorbents, including activated carbons, zeolites, silicas, and newer materials such as metal–organic frameworks, have been investigated extensively for gas storage and separation applications....

As I'm still starting with Bluesky, I thought that I would create a porous materials starter pack. Let me know if you want to be added or taken off this list.

@nfdi4chem.de created a starter pack with chemistry labs/people who might be worth to follow 🧑‍🔬 Some #porousmaterial and #adsorption people already included 🧽 #chemsky
For all the new chemists coming over here to where the sky is blue🤗, we have created a starter pack with professors and labs to follow in chemistry.⚗️
We will soon add a starter pack with non-professoral chemists. Stay tuned - or if you can't wait take a look at our following list 😉

If you are working in the field of gas adsorption, you may have come across reference materials (RM) that you can use to validate your experimental procedure ✅ We have just published the first binary adsorption data set on a NIST RM, CO2 and CH4 on zeolite RM8850 👨‍🔬

pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10....
Binary Adsorption Equilibria of Three CO2+CH4 Mixtures on NIST Reference Zeolite Y (RM 8850) at Temperatures from 298 to 353 K and Pressures up to 3 MPa
Adsorption equilibria of CO2, CH4, and their mixtures were measured on binderless pellets of NIST reference zeolite NaY (RM 8850) using a static gravimetric setup. The unary adsorption isotherms are r...
