This fall, @megstampede.bsky.social & I are collaborating to create a 2026 calendar!

Each month features a different animal, facts about them, & actions we can take to help them!

Sales will fund our '26 Native Plant Project

Pre-order now, they’ll ship in early November! Squidfacts.net
A spread of the calendar opened to November. two cuttlefish hover over a reef where the female has laid eggs with tiny little baby cuttlefish in them.

Colleagues in ocean science academia: 🧪🦑🌎

I am working on the section of my marine biology career advice book about applying to graduate school. I have lots to say here from both my own experience and years of teaching this stuff, but I’d welcome your input on any or all of this if you’re willing.

We’re BACK BABY.

At Bad Art for Good, we’re gonna get together and make some art to make things better.

How can art make things better? Creating makes us feel good! Art moves people! And we need a LOT of people to move right now!

A possum in a beret with a paintbrush screams in front of a canvas with a possum in a pile of leaves. The words say bad art for good an art + community event and the possum is saying “make the world better with art!” And free beer snacks and art supplies, and Indy hall November 10th 6:30

When you visit Friday Harbor Labs, @fishguy.bsky.social always has cool fish to discuss 🐟 Last week we pondered the horned searobin (Bellator militaris), & what its spines could be for. CT scan available on MorphoSource for you to explore

What I'm asking archaeologist to do here is meet with a group of students who are 9 times out of 10 working on a robotics club project through First Lego League. These students will ask you a bunch of questions on a video chat, usually after school or during their lunch break. It's fun!

Here I am. Once again. I'm out of archaeologists.

We matched 576 groups w/archaeologists, leaving 13 groups unmatched. This brings me pain! We've never run out of scientists like this before. 598 requests for one category is A LOT. But still.

Archaeologists 🥺

I am recruiting 1-2 graduate students (M.S. or Ph.D. track) to join my lab at @psychualberta.bsky.social in Fall 2026! Please share widely, and if you are interested in endocrinology, animal behavior, neuroscience, and/or seasonal biology, I would love to chat! 🐟🧠🧬🍂

Of all the stupid things that this regime has done, this is right up near the top. Postdoctoral researchers come to the US on H-1B visas. This will further destroy the US science enterprise. Stupid stupid stupid.
Trump administration to add $100,000 fee for H-1B visas
The Trump administration is targeting a visa widely used by tech companies and other employers to hire foreign workers.

nostalgic bonnethead sharks 🌈⚠️
An illustration on a light green background of two tan bonnethead sharks surrounded by nostalgic items, swirls, and stars. There is an old gameboy, a gameboy cartridge, a little earth, a caution sign, a rainbow ink swatch, a lava lamp, a sand filled lizard and an alien ufo.

Can you be a scientist and an artist? The latest installment in my YouTube experiment explores why science and art go hand-in-hand and how art can be a powerful tool for communicating your science.
