It’s only a planning grant now, so once the current effort is over there will only be a route.

And I messed up one of the approved shared use paths!

(Sharrows are red on the online map, but I turned them off in my screenshots because those aren’t that useful)

And I know lots of people don’t like to use bike lanes, but there’s still shared use paths a lot of the way if you come from JW Parkway. And in Albemarle you can ride a bike on the sidewalk.

It’s called ADHD, and past instances of people speaking about specifically the airport.

There are really actually only a few gaps in this currently (once you get out of the city).

Green are shared use paths, blue are bike lanes, red is approved shared use paths (I added the red).

Sure! And you bike there now! And there’s more stuff happening to make it easier! I just don’t think the airport is the place to focus on!
craftypanda.bsky.social
It’s the airport focus that gets frustrating.

Want to connect Hollymead better? Yes, that makes sense, and things are already happening (like most of the missing part of berkmar).
craftypanda.bsky.social
Hollymead has the most potential growth in a development area in the county and it will be needed. But it has nothing to do with getting to/from the airport.

There are existing shared use paths and others being built. But there are gaps from the city to Hollymead that should be closed.
craftypanda.bsky.social
Stuff is happening.

I just don’t think the airport should be the focus!
craftypanda.bsky.social
There are multiple shared use path projects ongoing parallel to 29 — it’s not like nothing is happening. But every so often people use the airport as the location to get to and for multiple reasons that seems like it shouldn’t be the location fixated on.
craftypanda.bsky.social
Because there are people who are talking about getting to the airport (and it’s not airport employees saying it) and it feels like such a silly place to advocate for bus service too when there isn’t even fixed bus service to the greater hollymead area.
craftypanda.bsky.social
You said airport. Lots of people say airport. The airport is the edge of the development area and somewhat off the beaten path compared to most of the density up there.

There are existing SU paths that are along 29 in that area: focus on getting those better connected to the city and stop saying ✈️
craftypanda.bsky.social
Except forest lakes is on the east side of 29 and the airport is on the west.

There are existing shared use paths along 29 and an extension is coming, so focus on the parts between those and the city and stop talking about the airport.

I would much rather we (as a community, I am in no way speaking for my employer) make bike travel and buses work for people to get to work, shopping, etc. within Charlottesville and Albemarle before we focus on the airport.
craftypanda.bsky.social
Honestly, I would never do it.

Most flights I’ve taken in the last 10 years have been super early or immediately after work, and I usually return between 9 pm and 12 am. Plus luggage.

I wouldn’t take the bus either for similar issues, and I have taken public transit to/from airports elsewhere.

I’m going to talk out of two sides of my mouth here a bit because we have proposed a separate “downtown” association outside of NDRA, but it’s really bizarre that people have just started other groups and the city has been like “ok sure” and treat them the same as everyone else.
craftypanda.bsky.social
He was never even picked this last time around and to my knowledge NDRA hasn’t met since spring 2024.

You shouldn’t be allowed to have a”Virginia is for lovers” bumper sticker on your car if you don’t give pedestrians the right of way, and you proceed to mock them when you illegally don’t stop.

Is this a dig at Charlottesville and our lack of an Ethiopian restaurant?
craftypanda.bsky.social
Are you taking it with you on the train or leaving it at the station? We usually have too much stuff to bike/scoot over to the station and are close enough to walk anyway, but I’ve always wondered if people are leaving bikes there.

Only up to 1964. From 1965-2005ish you have to go to the library.

Also, since when are any friends of cville meetings public, established community meetings?

Wait, let me try again. One more: median square footage for new construction detached!
