WARNING FOR SHINY HUNTERS!
My observation is that Pokemon do in fact despawn from a distance (tho unsure what that distance is)

I saw an Alpha Riolu across some building and without encountering it or going too incredibly far, when I got within draw distance range again it was just a regular size.

It seems (unless they withold it until later for whatever dumb reason) they have removed gyro aim from the ball throwing in Z-A.

It seems less necessary with the lock-on but omitting it as an option is also just pointless considering how much comfier it is than stick aiming.

It's partially bc I know a lot of other bigger streamers are moving into my time zone's release to get it sooner so anybody who would watch me is likely gonna watch them instead or not watch anybody (playing it themselves) so I'm just gonna save my energy for tomorrow.
