Born on this date in 1943: Dave Clarke

He served from 1975 to 1983 as the first-ever Home Rule Ward 1 Councilmember, then served from 1983 to 1991 & 1993 to 1997 as Council Chairman. The law school at @udc_edu is named for him.

Born on this date in 1959: Boris Nemtsov, a vocal critic of Vladimir Putin & his belligerent policy towards Ukraine. He was assassinated near the Kremlin in 2015.

In 2018, the Council renamed Wisconsin Ave. in front of the Russian Embassy for Nemtsov.

Born on this date in 1823: Mary Ann Shadd. She was an anti-slavery, pro-suffrage publisher & journalist, taught in DC Public Schools for 15 years, & graduated from Howard Law School at age 60, only the second Black woman in the US to do so. She died & is buried in Washington, DC.
