15. Rainier rescued them from werewolf hunters and nursed them back to health. They live together and Rainer still takes on a bit of a caretaker role, making sure they take care of themself and touch grass. They are besties and love going on foraging adventures together

13. When they were 16 they ran away with Will to join a werewolf pack. At first, they loved traveling around the country and being free to be a werewolf, but over time the shine wore off. The pack was a very dysfunctional group of people who only got more awful over time

Spooky bird stories. Last year's Halloween comic.

A comic titled Spooky Bird Stories. In panel 1, a turkey vulture is telling stories to other vultures, and it says, "She walked toward the source of the terrible smell. She got closer and closer, and then, to her horror, she saw... No dead body." A black vulture says "No!" and a turkey vulture says "Did someone already eat it??"
In panel 2, a northern cardinal is telling a story to some songbirds. It says "They peered through the windows of the house at the gory scene. Zombies had smashed through the door in the night. The homeowner was dead. But worst of all... He hadn't refilled the feeders." An eastern bluebird says "Aaah!" and an American goldfinch says "It can't be!".
In panel 3, a screech owl is telling a story to other owls. It says "And then the ghost fluffed itself up really big to appear scarier." A saw-whet owl gasps, and a long-eared owl says "Horrifying!".
In panel 4, a downy woodpecker is telling a story to other woodpeckers, and says "The eerie sound rang through the dark woods. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. It was the distinctive two-part knock of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. The species had returned from the dead... FOR REVENGE." A red-cockaded woodpecker says "Yesss".

12. They were childhood besties with Will, and would play DnD and talk about nerd stuff all day. Galen had an unrequited crush on him back then, but it never went anywhere. Even though they had a massive falling out years ago, they still think about Will all the time and miss him deeply

10. They are very shy and struggle with situational mutism - they only are able to speak around people they feel comfortable with. If someone gets more than a one word response from them, it’s a big deal.

9. They learned how to ID birds by song several years ago back when they were living in the woods with their pack. Between their sharp hearing and birding skills, they are a human Merlin app. They can get very annoying on hikes because they have to stop to look at every bird and plant

8. They are obsessed with birdwatching, and documenting the bird drama in their backyard. They can recognize some of the regular visitors and have given all the birds silly names. Some of the birds will even eat out of their hands (but it’s a work in progress)

7. They don’t really like most sweet foods but go crazy for fresh berries. Their favorite food is blueberries picked straight from the bush

6. Galen doesn’t like using their magic on living plants unless they have to, because the plants will become dependent on their magic and wither away without it. They always carry around packets of catgrass or chia seeds for when they need to cast a spell

5. They have developed a serious houseplant addiction. Most are gifts or cuttings, but sometimes they steal neglected plants and nurse them back to health. They have a soft spot for succulents and cacti, the weirder the better. Their most prized plant is a red pagoda plant (one of these guys)

4. They are a magic apprentice, which is basically a crappy internship but with ✨magic✨. They do all the boring grunt work like grinding up potion ingredients or fetching coffee for the wizards, and also get to learn how to cast a basic healing spell every once in a while

3. They get horrible nightmares (because traumatic backstory), so instead of trying to make themself sleep they stay up late studying magic or reading. They also will forget they need to sleep if they get hyperfixated on something. So they often wind up crashing in random places
