Senator Chris Coons
@coons.senate.gov
Father, husband, U.S. Senator from Delaware
My Republican colleagues always tell me: don’t pay attention to what Trump says, pay attention to what he does. I am—and that’s why I’m so alarmed. Are you?

We must protect our kids in an increasingly online world. That's why my colleagues and I reached out to Meta to demand answers about its history of neglecting child safety. Social media companies have a duty not to put America's kids at risk—we intend to make sure they fulfill it.

To know the future, you need to know the past. If this senate was here 170 years ago, or 90 years ago, would we have seen what was coming?

It would be bad enough if Trump was damaging our economy and threatening our Canadian neighbors because of his fragile ego. But it’s worse: he’s doing it to boost the profits of a billionaire buddy of his administration.

Trump and Republicans took billions of dollars from health care and food assistance for working Americans and gave it to an out-of-control ICE. We need commonsense reforms to ICE now that will make it accountable to the American people—not Donald Trump.

Jimmy Lai stood up for the freedom from government repression and overreach – in Hong Kong, in China, and around the world. His sentencing to 20 years in a Chinese prison is a tragedy for liberty and freedom.

When I questioned Commerce Secretary Lutnick about tariffs today, I did have to make one other thing clear to him: No, most Americans aren’t afraid of their names being in the Epstein Files. And even fewer have had lunch on his private island

This February, we celebrate Black History Month and recognize the great contributions and sacrifices Black Americans have made for our nation. From arts and music to science, technology, and public service–Black history is American history, and we are stronger because of it.

Happy birthday, @bluntrochester.senate.gov! Here’s to another year of your wisdom and leadership as we work to serve Delaware together.

On January 1, Republicans allowed the Affordable Care Act tax credits to expire, doubling health care premiums for millions of Americans. More than a dozen Republicans joined Democrats to vote for these tax credits because they know their constituents are hurting.

What are Democrats doing about ICE in Minneapolis? I’m a co-sponsor of the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act to stop ICE from arresting law-abiding people near hospitals, schools, churches & courthouses. Americans shouldn’t fear ICE while going to work, worshipping or raising their families.

Trump’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast yesterday wasn’t about faith—it was about partisan division and petty grievances.

On Capitol Hill, I joined a bipartisan group of colleagues for a different event where we prayed together for our country and our future.
At dueling National Prayer Breakfasts, a religious debate over Trump's immigration policy
President Donald Trump, speaking to a sprawling crowd at a National Prayer Breakfast in Washington on Thursday (Feb. 5), returned to his personal tradition of using the bipartisan convening as an oppo...

It’s not enough that this vile, racist video was deleted. I call on my Republican colleagues to condemn this repulsive behavior and for the White House to explain how such hateful garbage was spread on Trump’s account.

What does opportunity mean? For most Americans it starts with safe housing, a solid education, basic health care, and the chance to give their kids a better future.

The January 6 rioters already got pardons from Trump, even after they assaulted police to try to steal an election. Now they want to be paid out with your taxpayer dollars.

Republicans let health care tax credits expire, and in just one month, families have already begun to feel the pain.

I delivered Georgetown's Whittington lecture to talk about my positive vision for my party based on opportunity, security, & justice. Young Americans are working harder than ever and still feel they're falling behind their parents.

Even if we don’t fund DHS, ICE still has a $75B budget. That’s more than the entire Marine Corps. So, I’m a co-sponsor of the Public Safety Act to move that money to state & local law enforcement that knows our communities and follows the law.

Republicans love to say—pay attention to what Trump says, not what he does. As the UK, Canada, and the EU move towards China due to Trump's erratic behavior, my new op-ed in TIME has my advice: it's time to pay attention to what our allies are doing, too.

Congress Must Fight Back Against American Isolationism
"Our allies no longer trust Trump, and by extension, the United States," writes Senator Chris Coons.

If you're a health care fraudster or shady landlord in Minneapolis, great news: Trump's DOJ is too busy prosecuting protestors and dealing with the fallout from ICE to go after you. www.politico.com/news/2026/02...

Donald Trump's economy: the worst for American workers since the Great Recession.
February 5, 2026 at 9:10 PM
Millions came here for opportunity. Millions more feel stuck and left behind. If we as Democrats don’t deliver real solutions to that issue, we don’t have a future.

In just three years since my ACT for ALS with Senator Murkowski was signed into law, we managed to TRIPLE federal funding for ALS research. And we won’t stop fighting for more until we find a cure.

Every week, I hear from Delawareans whose health insurance bills have skyrocketed—up hundreds or thousands of dollars per month. Families are already suffering under Trump’s economy, and these price hikes are unacceptable. I won’t stop fighting until we have real solutions that bring costs down.

I’m proud of these young Delawareans who have realized they may be too young to have a vote, but they’re never too young to have a voice. Thank you for getting into some Good Trouble and speaking out against ICE’s unaccountable and immoral overreach.
