It might be a good de-escalation tactic: China could "dump" Taiwan for Baikal / Siberia.

No one (east or west) would side with Russia against China.
It would be a fair exchange.

How many tanks, rocket launchers, airplanes etc could repel China if an insurrection happens ?
Who's going to step in to protect Russia if China annexes the east ?
Even Putin is so drowned in debts (both money and support) with China that could probably dismiss the whole thing as "payment".

Do you believe that Kim is going to keep sending men and aid when Russia will run out of money?
What about China ? China is probably waiting for the right time to annex part of Russia, something that can happen if Russia keeps wasting in Ukraine even the resources reserved for territorial integrity.

And yes, I know that Russia is getting some help too... but there's almost no monetary or heavy support from China, while North Korea is just milking money, something that is in short supply in Russia.

War is like a diet: you can't go on forever, eventually you'll die of starvation, unless you stop it before it's too late.

Both Russia and Ukraine are "dieting", but one is getting some serious help (money and ordnance), the other is just wasting everything it has to keep going.

Russia will lose its ability to keep the war going.
Be it lack of manpower, ammounitions, vehicles, fuel or money needed to keep the logistic machine going.
It will reach a point that will make the current front lines untenable, and then...
Probably this winter.

History, even recent history, has been an endless flow of wars and atrocities... we called those afrer WW2 "cold war" because we felt the need to put an encompassing bracket on the usual "stuff keeps happening".
