I gave a painting materials workshop at the RHA School yesterday. We made paint, discussed pigments, oils, additives, brushes, palettes, health and safety and much else. Thanks to my students for keeping me on my toes and asking so many questions!

My #culturenight contribution this year - a portrait painting marathon - got on the six o'clock news. Good gymnastics for a painter, an opportunity to meet lots of people, involve them in what I do and give back to my local community.

Here are the paintings from my Culture Night Portrait Marathon at Arklow Arts Centre last Friday. In twelve hours I painted 18 portraits in oils, live streaming the entire process. Thanks to all my sitters, to all who watched in person and online, and Wicklow Arts Office who funded the event!

Here's a recently completed portrait painted from life. Painting from life isn't always easy and it wasn't easy to please the sitter on this but I think it's a damn good portrait. I'm happy with it.

I'll be doing another portrait marathon for #culturenight next September 19th at Arklow Arts Centre. I'll do 18 portraits in 12 hours, live-streamed, creating an impromptu exhibition, with the portraits given to the sitters afterwards. Bookings will open in early August.
