(5/n) Even the most fundamental checks on power in the U.S. can be eroded by declaring continuous emergencies or pushing on a hot-button issue. Gov. services, that provide some social equity, are also attacked by turning people against each other, exploiting crises, or lying about wastefulness.

(4/n) Why would someone trust #bureaucracy that can be captured? Just look at how much we give oil & gas corporations through #subsidies. Even the most fundamental checks on power in the U.S. can be eroded by declaring continuous emergencies or continuously pushing on a hot-button issue.

(3/n) Most people I talk with agree the ultrarich have too much influence but either don’t trust governments to deal with the problem, or get caught up in the weeds of what mechanism would be used to deal with this influence.

(2/n) Some argue for a return to the #ProgressiveTaxation & social service investments of the past - & I agree with them.
But WE HAD those systems in place & they were eroded. To prevent that erosion repeating we ALSO need a more fundamental, transparent, measure to check the influence of wealth.

By definition again here: if you think a #NoKings protest is terrorism then you're a monarchist. The U.S. was literally founded on the principle "No Kings."

The U.S. founders missed that Kings emerge from the consolidation of mass wealth by the few. So long as that can happen Kings are inevitable.
