Oh I absolutely love both. And as you say it's clear they meet again at the end. The drama did a fantastic job with all the clues they snuck in, with the chickens and rabbits etc.
The ending is just a little, messy? I guess? WoH is too, without the online extra. It's better once you know, is all

But initially I didn't get it. They went through all that together, and then didn't stay together? It came across to me that Wwx finally had time to breathe after being brought back to life, and everyone just deserted him. Including Lwj, who doesn't stop Wwx leaving. I was in tears that first time.

I watched before reading the book, and that first time around I found the ending confusing and not great, tbh. Once I understood about the difficulties with censorship, knew the book ending, and got a better handle on what the CQL ending was attempting to convey, that opinion changed.
