It's not the simplest thing to explain, and although you asked for physicists, I am not one. I just store information, I have no control of what information I store though. So there is probably holes in what I've said.

It's been a while for me too, but gravity can be defined in many different ways, Einstien describes it as the curvature of space time and with that definition came up with his theory of relativity, and from there predicted the existence of black holes.
