Now in the FF7 remakes, Nomura’s like, hey, maybe Aerith DOESN’T have to die. And Zack is still alive in another reality! Same with Aqua, Terra, Ventus, Roxas, Xion, every Nobody and pretty much everyone else in KH. I can get behind “let’s defy fate guys!” but at a certain point it gets ridiculous.
comicfoil712.bsky.social
At least I can be fairly sure Xehanort and Eraqas are truly gone now. Nomura’s storytelling is interesting to me the way it makes death nearly nonexistent. Especially considering he got famous for FF7, which was largely Sakaguchi wrestling with the permanency of loss through Aerith and Zack.

And as Sora, I think we’ve earned his bewildered rage as his century-old gambit is toppled by a sweet kid and his animal pals. This soft redemption at the end is ridiculous and I’m not about it. I doubt playing a season of a dead mobile game for more context would change my mind.

Xehanort should be dragged kicking and screaming into the Final World. He should die gripping that X-blade with everything he’s got. He should be SURE the thing he’s connived, killed, and body-jacked people over is the correct course of action.

This guy has lived multiple lives. He’s a scientist, philosopher, warrior and grand wizard. He certainly knows more about light and dark than Sora does. That doesn’t mean he’s right and Sora’s wrong, but one fight, however epic, shouldn’t flip his entire worldview on this.
comicfoil712.bsky.social
But I do NOT like letting him go out with such dignity. A guy who’s spent so much time and wronged so many people to get this far should not just accept defeat and say, “Well I guess you’re right, Sora.” Even if his dead Oldman boyfriend shows up to go to heaven with him. This is so unearned.

Last off, Xehanort. I’ve heard some people complain about him “being a good guy all along”. I don’t think that’s true. I already had the sense that he was doing what he thought was right for the universe, just that he’s arrogant and Machiavellian and that’s what makes him the villain. Sure, fine.

So when she DOES do something, you just kind of have to take the game’s word on it. It reminds me of Sakura from Naruto, she’s in a constant cycle of the writers damseling her, pretending to give her agency, and then damseling her again. It’s frustrating and feels sexist.

Basically Kairi’s involvement with this is always a “soft power” deus ex machina kind of thing. I don’t need her to be a great fighter, but you made a point of saying she was in training only to have her taken out by, what, Xemnas grabbing her arm!? And her powers are still poorly explained,
comicfoil712.bsky.social
Second is Kairi: you mfers won’t let her do ANYTHING, will you? I hear she’s more involved in the DLC, but I also heard she was gonna be more involved in this, so I’m annoyed at this point. And yeah, I guess she’s responsible for Sora being able to survive in the Final World…

My negatives revolve around four characters. The first two are Riku and Mickey. Man they do a whole lot of nothing in this finale. We could have had the opposite problem of them taking too much attention away from Sora, but the writers really didn’t know how to keep them in check.

The visual of eating ice cream on the clock tower is overdone at this point, but it made me smile to see Isa join them, as well as the Twilight Town normies. I’m so happy that Hayner, Olette and Pence get to go to Destiny Isles too, getting in on the multi world secret. They earned it!

I’m okay with the clusterfuck combined boss fights too, especially knowing that each Org member has their own enhanced boss fight in the DLC for the diehards. It would have been too drawn into fight each one at the end. I appreciate the “where are they now” segment at the end including Disney worlds
comicfoil712.bsky.social
Let me start with what I liked. I like Donald and Goofy getting to join Sora for the final bout, and the general respect they were given as veterans of this series. Scala ad Caelum is an awesome final stage, even if I just barely understand its lore significance.
comicfoil712.bsky.social
To be fair, I don’t know what my ideal ending would look like. At least they got through their checklist. They resolved the 358 crew, the BBS crew, Namine, Repliku, and even all the Org members get little send offs as you defeat them. I expected saccharine and it’s definitely that.
comicfoil712.bsky.social
Done with KH3’s Story Mode (minus ReMind). I’m not seething angry or anything, but I can’t say I’m entirely happy with the ending. And I know this was never meant to be the finale of KH as a whole so I won’t grade it on that, but it falters as an end to everything established so far.

If they made a Mega Evolution for Alolan Slowbro, would they call it Mega Alolan Slowbro, or Alolan Mega Slowbro?
comicfoil712.bsky.social
Yen Sid actually doing something great, even if it’s just single scene. At this point it’s hard for the story to seem authentic to me, all I see are the narrative blocks the writers have to move around to conclude this massive series. Accepting that, it’s hokey but alright. More to come.
comicfoil712.bsky.social
Okay, played a little more. Looks like this initial team loss is all in service of an eventual Union Cross payoff. I can respect that. Having attempted to understand the deep lore, I got a little hype seeing the Union Leaders keyblades. And now we can have the battle proper.
comicfoil712.bsky.social
Yeah, to be fair it is the most Heartless we’ve ever seen at once. At I can understand Ven and Aqua being kinda dumbfounded fighting Terranort and not doing there best. It’s just the combination of all these things.
comicfoil712.bsky.social
I think there’s gonna be a second rally after Sora comes back from being sorta-kinda dead. And maybe then our heroes will get a chance to shine. But you’d think we’d get to see the team be at least a little competent before this 11th-hour moment.
