I edit a newsletter that bears witness to the unwinding and collapse of late stage capitalism. The current system will collapse in the near future due to environmental overshoot and resource constraints.
Adrian Lambert on the break between collapse awareness and acceptance. It’s one thing to learn the facts about collapse. The facts are uncomfortable but clear. Acceptance is another matter. Acceptance is the psychological recognition that the worldview you lived inside no longer holds.

We no longer live in a high-trust society. Instead, we live in a low-trust society with trust industry scaffolding — an entire ecosystem of highly-paid intermediaries whose full-time job is to simulate the trust we no longer have in each other.
Borrowed trust in a broken society
In the West, we used to live in a genuine high-trust society. No longer. Today, we're a low-trust society, masquerading as a high-trust society, fueling a booming 'trust industrial complex.'

People deserve to understand the current / future risk where they live.

This type of modeling is hard.

Future state modeling groups producing asset-level output have long faced skepticism from scientists, insurers, banks, and homeowners.

How modelers capture uncertainty is a true test of quality.

David Stockman writes that a worldview shaped by separation and endless growth cannot guide us through a world of limits, interdependence, and feedback. If we look at the world as a network rather than isolated parts, we will realize that a a relational worldview is our path forward.

This day is when many of us reflect upon our lives, gather with loved ones and give thanks for the small things and simple miracles that enrich us. Today’s edition is a reprise of one I created several years ago, an assembly of Thanksgiving-related stories and reflections.

Rebecca Nagle reminds us that “if we could go back in time and ask the pilgrims how they helped build our country, they wouldn’t describe a bountiful feast with their Wampanoag neighbors. They would show us King Philip’s head on a stake.”
The myth of Thanksgiving is as American as it is wrong
Every year, we tell the mythical story of the first Thanksgiving so we can ignore the obvious truth that this land was taken not by friendship, but by violence.

Ten years ago the 2015 Paris agreement aimed to put humanity on a path to avert dangerous climate change. A decade on, humanity has lost the bet. Warming is going to exceed 1.5°C. We are heading into “overshoot” within the next few years. So, what comes after failure?
