Wednesday kicked off Mexican Heritage Month, and to celebrate I wanted to share the progress on the Mexican American Cultural Center renovations here in District 9. I can’t wait to see this space reopen and welcome the community back.

24 years later, we remember the lives lost on 9/11, honor the bravery of first responders, and stand with families forever changed. Austin joins the nation in reflection, reminding us to lead with compassion, unity, and service in their memory.
I’m deeply saddened by the tragic shooting near Barton Creek involving an APD officer and a community member. My heart is with them, their families, and loved ones. I’m committed to working with partners to support healing and strengthen safety across Austin.
Just two days before the Barton Springs attack, I pushed a resolution to rebuild Austin’s Hate Crimes Task Force. Soon it will be fully city-led, with better reporting tools and stronger support for survivors. Learn more: austinfreepress.org/barton-stings/
