For what it’s worth, that’s not unique to academia.

I equate it to the concept of “looming” in the psychology of perception. Our brains aren’t wired to comprehend large things moving at high speed, because in nature they don’t. So people die trying to beat trains @ x’ings.

The last thing this guy needs is the validation of someone who looks like me, so I’ll put it this way: I would follow this man into the fires of hell; but I would put myself between him & any threat.

I owe him that. All too many of us do.

Speaking from 20+ yrs exp as a US military public affairs (media/community relations) bubba who by necessity had to be in tight coord w/ the psychological & influence operations folks to keep them distinct, this is textbook public perception work that effectively discredits the fascist narrative.

Columbus Day, much like “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance,” is not part of the origin story of the United States. Both originated in the first half of the 20th century.

They were add-ons by those attempting to whitewash our historical narrative for purposes unrelated to facts & accuracy.

I encourage those who need to peg others on the L/R binary before getting to know them to consider setting that lens aside.

I identify as a believer in universal human rights.

If I meet your definition of L/R once we get to know each other, ok. But make it a discovery rather than a starting point.

If you & your family members haven’t prepared a go-bag including food, water, & aid kit, & broken in a pair of sturdy hiking boots/shoes, you should get on it.

If true, this is messed up on so many different levels — up to & including parallels w/ on-the-record behavior of ICE’s most senior leader — it borders on incomprehensible.

CBP agents knocked on an El Paso home at 7:15 a.m.

The owner asked to secure his Rottweiler, Chop, in the bathroom.

While he got his ID, agents opened the door and shot Chop.

The family tried to save him as he bled out on the kitchen floor.
