A massive problem today is the uneven distribution of shame. Some of us are running dedicated on-site shame servers 24/7 while others have no access to shame at all, even though they desperately need it. What we need to do is put shame in the cloud

Right, that's something people don't understand.

Also lack of upward mobility in housing is an issue too. When somebody with a decent income is still renting a one bedroom, that one bedroom isn't available to a younger person (and rents go up, because the older person with good income can pay).

There isn't a single thing in TOS or the TOS movies to even suggest that Kirk is non-monogamous, other than maybe his first love being his ship, and older Kirk regrets not settling down.

Now, William Riker, on the other hand, is a slut in a space suit.

Even as a Millennial TurboLiberal for whom this website is made I have to admit I get pretty tired of reading about one trillion problems I neither understand nor can solve. "THOUSANDS of octopi are dying off the coast of Madagascar" alright I'm not in charge of that. That's not my job.

The fact that four hostile drones tried to hit Zelenskyy’s plane & it’s barely a blip in the news cycle should terrify everyone. We’ve been dragged so deep into the chaos era that an attempted strike on a world leader doesn’t even break through. When this becomes normal, the world is in real danger.

No matter where it begins, every political conversation or analysis among libs ends up at language, word choice, "framing." Just an endless, bottomless, almost pre-conscious faith that they can persuade their opponents to cede power.

Storytelling is the most important skill in human life. Every skill for getting what you want boils down to storytelling.

Every human brain runs on stories, including your own.

For capitalism to keep operating it has to convince you that you are thing that ends at the boundaries of your body rather than a flow connected to uncountable others. After all, you can't really profit off extracting from yourself.

It’s dumb to dogpile people just because they deviate from group consensus or consider some nuance you don’t agree with. Not everyone is a moron or in bad faith if they don’t align with you 100% on every topic. It’s ok to use an inside voice for disagreement with people who respect you

One of the dumb quirks of my brain was that for a long time I thought most people mostly said things that were mostly true observations about the world.

I knew what *I* said was mostly about what identities I wanted to project and what relationships I wanted to cultivate. But.

There should be a law that therapists are not allowed to be younger than you. I will not be taking advice from a 25 year old because the decisions I made at 25 are the reason I need therapy now.

Starting to get suspicious that when people say "X doesn't communicate" or "X doesn't know what they want" what they're actually saying is "I don't listen"

Should have figured that out a long time ago.

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

This is as good as this stuff will ever be, this is the phase where we're all supposed to be getting hooked in to this disruptive new thing. Once the free money dries up and they have to turn a profit, it will inevitably get worse and worse
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."

Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?
